Look. Here’s the root of why he was asked to leave

1. They took him in because they needed the money and didn’t feel like putting out an ad.

2. He’s the lone wolf from Louisiana

3. He killed what many of them had been dreaming about…beating off to….envisioning taking a picture with…for two straight years.

The new guy?! From LOUISIANA!?

It’s high school level jealousy

That was one of the best posts I’ve seen on TD. Too many clubs become all about competition and killing. By the end of the season the stress level is high and tempers at the tipping point. And people pay good money to have the same each year!

These are the neighbors we hunt next to. They refuse to kill does and whack whatever 2.5 year old buck that walks out.

Move on Pard.
Good to know early how these imbicils are and chalk it up to experience. You will vett the next club.

And this is my argument against cameras. I have cameras. But usually to see a monster buck you either have to be lucky or get your arse out of bed more than the others.

Cameras create animosity by setting claim to an animal that they honestly have all equal rights to hunt. It’s BS.

“I’ve been hunting this buck for three years.”

Now equals

“I’ve been checking notifications on my phone for three years and have gone hunting 6 times in that timeframe. So don’t shoot him.”

Plus, it takes away some of the surprises that Mother Nature can give you.

They did need a member and I had been helping ever summer for 3-4 years already.

No doubt this is true.

Even less doubt on this statement.

I think what they were expecting of me was to be like most of the members. They pay and don't hunt except for a handful of them. Most belong to other clubs and split time between those other clubs and duck hunting south LA.
Some of them don't even make the work weekends and just pay the $500 fine with their dues because they know they are not going to show up.

Yup, it isn't just on clubs, either. We have to deal with this from cousins on family land. A couple of years ago I shot a decent 8. My cousin and her husband were bitching because their son had it on camera and it was "his buck".

Credit to BruslyTiger for not naming the club he was kicked out of (although I wish he would!). And having hunted SW Mississippi for many years I have no doubt that Levee’s description of what went down is 100% accurate.

This is why you have to have a “master of the hunt” In my club I tell people where they are hunting while listening to suggestions as well. But if we are packed, you’re going where I tell you based on who needs to kill a buck (predetermined by me and how much they help or how much they’ve hunted and been good guests) You’re also going to be in your stand before daylight and hunt till 9:00am In the afternoon you’ll be in your stand by 2:30 and hunt till dark thirty and I’ll either come get you or if you know how to walk back, do that. It’s so much easier to have a leader. You don’t like it? It’s my land.

I would like to but I am 1) trying to be the adult and 2) I have a friend that is still a member and would not want to make it more awkward for him than it already is right now.

You’ve the upper hand. I wouldn’t pull any passive aggressive shite, but would entertain leasing it out from under them.

Courtesy above all else. Also if you want new rule every time you see fit, it ain’t happening. If a club has to have 10 pages of rules I want no part of it.

those clubs on the mississippi river are nice af with the caliber of deer they kill but holy shite hunting there is like marine corps boot camp. my buddy has a camp on the river but they are super freaking strict. not to mention the fines they throw at you if you slip up. $500 for an undersized deer. $1000 and then eventually theyll throw you out

We are on the river. Our neighboring club has a book of rules concerning everything you can imagine and many you can’t. The most recent that I know about enacted this past season is that any buck had to be 5.5 years old or there would be consequences. That’s not for us. We have two sentences about deer size but if someone makes a mistake it is what it is. We know and trust each other well enough to let it go

I’ve heard of some with books in the box stands with deer names and specifics about who can shoot them and who can’t.

I want no part of anything like that. I’ll just bow hunt public and enjoy the suffering ha.

I hunted on Togo island on the river for many years with a friend of mine. The deer were everywhere and seeing a good buck was the norm. However , the rules were so strict that I never killed one because if it didn’t meet all the requirements my friend was done for the year. It was an awesome place to hunt but I was not good enough to judge a deer that I was sure was “legal”. If I ever win the powerball I’m buying that island lol.

Hunting is supposed to be enjoyable especially for kids. If you rule yourself into kids having to sit there and freeze watching big buck after big buck walk by they will eventually decide to stay home and do something different. If my kids and grandkids don’t want to hunt because adults ruled them out of killing a nice buck then I have no reason to go either. I go for them now
