this may sound wild - but our unwritten rule was only shoot something you want to put on the wall....that is what i was taught as a child....stopped rifle hunting after i killed a once in a lifetime buck and switched to bow hunting

Sound like you were a "noobie" to the club and the old timers are upset you shot "their" big buck. Not only is it hard to find a club to join, its even harder to find one not full of bitches.

And, imo, euro>shoulder mount

wasn't going to hunt that stand that morning because other members wanted a shot. I was the only one to wake up that morning to hunt in the 22 degree temps. So I changed my mind and when to that stand. BOOM
Not only killed the biggest buck but outed all the members hunting there that they are a bunch of pussies, lol. Rubs the salt in the wound.

I typically hunt by this rule myself. I get invited up to Kansas every year and we have no set rules or anything on what we can shoot but I still believe in this. Ive seen some of the locals shoot 2 year old 7pts out of their truck so they dgaf. The farmer actually gets mad when you see deer and don’t kill them on his properties

Ill never be that guy to shame anyone on what they shoot though. Its just my personal preference. Ill shoot does all day for meat

This is a control tactic. I’ve fallen for similar as a younger man, never again.

I’d add, all unwritten rules and similar lead to conflict eventually; but most of that shite is again usually done on purpose for chickenshit “outs”.

I only shoot something I want to put in my freezer first. Once that's done I then change to wall mounts.

Came here to post this.. Lots of clubs have a 1 cull and 1 trophy deer rule. The trophy should be something you're willing to mount. The wall mount rule becomes more of a punishment for those that don't judge deer well.

Not saying I agree or disagree..

You hunted that deer out of Waylon's creek stand didn't ya? No one is supposed to hunt the president's stand.

That was another thing that told me they were pissed. There is a camp rule that your next Buck must score 20 inches higher than first buck. So I asked if cull bucks counted in that rule and I was told not to shoot any cull bucks.

This made no sense because a "cull is a buck that is to be considered inadequate or inferior. It is not as good as its deer brethren. Cull bucks must be considered when a rancher or hunter is trying to determine which bucks to cull to improve the quality of the herd."

Sounds like some locals we grew up with, they had more land than they needed or wanted to pay for. They were always bringing in new members.

But if you killed a "good" deer, especially bigger than theirs you were gone.

Deer bring out the worst in some people.

Looks like Texas, where abouts is the lease? I live in south Texas and wouldn't mind going over there and shooting all of the turkeys out before the other members go in and do it.

Mississippi, The club leases for everything but turkey. The members have to stay away during turkey season.

The number one reason listed was because I shot the largest deer ever on the property and didn't shoulder mount it. He also listed that I allowed my youngest son shoot a small doe. I wanted him to get his first deer, the season was winding down so he shot one smaller that I would have normally shot. Neither of these things were actual rules in the club written rules and just feelings.

It’s none of their business what you do with your trophy

One of the best parts of deer camp is the experience for kids. You’re better off without them. They got upset you killed a deer your first year they’ve been hunting for years. As long as it was killed out of your spot or a spot you had permission to hunt that day then you did nothing wrong.

Our camp is simple: show up to work days and help. If you help others with their plots you can hunt them as long as you ask.

Shoot legal deer

Don’t ride your ATV around the property before 10 am or after 2 pm during the season except when going to and from your stand

Keep the camp a family friendly atmosphere for the kids

Those a very reasonable rules. I will never understand how one can be upset when someone else kills any legal deer. Hell, we celebrate at our place when somebody kills one! But then again we hunt public land in South MS so it’s not like we have giants going down.

Since they’re acting like such bitches over this, you should at least tell us the name of the club so no other OB’er ends up unknowingly taking your former spot

Well that figures. I had the same damn thing happen to me about 12 years ago. I moved to MS after graduating college and joined a lease out there. I was the only member from out of state and they almost didn't let me join because I was from Louisiana, told me that straight to my face. Basically, if anything happened at the camp I was the first person to be blamed and questioned. I was never late on my dues, we had 4 work weekends and if you didn't make at least 2 you have to pay a 250 dollar fine, I would make all of them and more. We were hit by a horrific tornado that dropped trees on half of the camp houses, didn't hit my camper, I went up 3 weekends in a row and helped cut trees off of camp houses and clear trails of knocked down trees. It was illegal to hunt over corn at that time in MS and they found where some corn was being poured out on the ground, blamed me for it. You could only shoot in the designated area around the camp house and had to let other camp members know before doing so. They found a bunch of empty shotgun shells and skeet near the camp ground where you weren't supposed to shoot, I got blamed for it. A window unit was stolen out of one of the trailers, I got blamed for it. We had a sign in sheet that we would put time and date and location and it was first come first serve, well I brought my 6 year old hunting with me so we decided to go hunt the closest box stand and no one had signed it out, so we went. Got back to camp and was confronted by a member who's niece, a non paying member, was supposed to hunt that stand that afternoon. I finally had enough when I was accused of ruining another members turkey hunt. We had 1500 acres and he was on the south side of the property and had signed out already, so me and my son went to furthest north end of the property to go out of our way to not disturb him, but got accused of ruining his hunt. Finally after hunting there for 4 years at one of our Spring meetings I stood up and told everyone if they had a personal problem with me to be man enough to come and talk to me and quit blaming me for everything. No one said a word, I had already paid so finished out that hunting season and left the lease. I will never join another lease unless it's just with family.

Are you required to mount the deer at the camp? Why would it matter how you mounted it if it's being mounted somewhere nobody at the camp is at?
