I must add that I won a Yeti "Roadie" at a DU banquet this year. It is 7.5 qts, with a SS handle, basically a $220 "Playmate" or whatever Igloo used to call their similar sized cooler. While all Yeti products are expensive, the cost of this model seems truly ludicrous. However, It is one of the best things i own. As an extremely active hunter, fisherman, sports fan, and involved parent of two children who travels a lot, it is really useful. I love it, and would buy another one, FWIW.

I have a Coleman xtreme from walmarks that will keep ice for several days in hot temps. Just saying.

This^^^ I was coming here to post about extremes. I have a regular igloo and an extreme. I kept a pig in the igloo and changed the ice daily last week. I finally butchered it and put it in the extreme with a new bag of ice. 2 days later, the ice had barely lost anything to melt. I had forgotten how well it worked until that back to back experiment.

Yeti dosent make (origina 15qt) Roadies any more.
The original 15 qt Roadies are going for like $400 on eBay. (crazy)

I bought a Yeti b/c I was tired of the ice melting at my tailgate.
I get there Friday afternoon and we stay until Sunday morning.
The Yeti just works. (shrugs)

The best thing to keep ice if you don't have a fancy cooler is get clean, filtered ice. If possible even deionized.

heat transfer class says WTF?

to be fair, the heat load placed on an ice chest is probably different in Alaska.

Well, it' gets in the 90's in the interior.

Usually the time spent out hunting or fishing is longer too. 3-5 days out is pretty normal.

The status symbol is when we get back to the tailgate we icy cold beer.

I like cold beer. So do my BILs and my nephews and my nieces and most importantly, my wife.

I'm not out for 3 days in the hot louisiana outdoors. 2 at the most when i go fishing or camping, and even then i get enough ice to keep the beer or food at least "cool" for a couple of days in my igloo

As far as status symbol goes, many people do buy it just for that--and a handful buy it for what it was designed for and have great need for it. I don't blame you if you want to spend $800 on a cooler, i just don't have that kind of money for what amounts to a couple days more of your beer staying cold

You don't know how grumpy my wife gets if her Coors Light ain't cold.

Seriously, it was aggravating. I'd stop and load the ice chests at WD on Friday at 1-2pm. Folks would come over on Saturday morning for a Saturday day game (don't get me started) and by Saturday evening, no or very little ice.
People are wiling to bring ice to the RV, but as you know, that's a PITA. The RV has a freezer, but it can't keep up.

I'm usually throwing ice away Sunday morning.

Beer=cold.

I'll keep ice in a trash bag before I buy a Yeti.

Just to be anti trendy.

Coleman Extreme works just as good. It will keep ice in 90 degree heat for 5-6 days...$59.99 at Wally World. I don't about y'all, but I don't need a $300 cooler.
