I have three igloos and two yetis. I've replaced the hinges on all the igloos and will have to replace one rubber latch on a yeti.

I probably save $200 on ice a year not to mention it's a pain in the arse when the closest store is 20 minutes away.

Plus at a lot of those country stores, Jim bob likes to charge damn near $5 for a 10# bag of ice.

My buddy's buddy has a 400 yeti and he needs to hire a group of pallbearers to move that damn box.

If you have the money and you fish a lot then a yeti is worth it.

I understand it for offshore, but that's about it. If you have the money to go offshore, then a yeti is a good investment. Not everyone that owns one goes offshore though and that I don't get.

SSI for offshore is better. I don't even know if yeti makes a box as big as SSI. I have one that I can lay in and still have room. I'm 6' tall. The box is around 6'6" x about 30" wide.

The only yeti i have is a roadie 20. If you are going in and out of it for drinks it doesn't keep any better than an igloo. Biggest advantage is that you can use it as a step stool or extra seat in the boat. Plus i haven't broken anything on it yet but have cracked every hinge on the igloos i have. Just about every one of them has had new hinges and new hold open straps on the inside.

I like them, but the SSI's are high and the new grizzly 400 was only 830.

Hell, the one I have is about 20 years old. I even forgot what I paid for it.

I haven't forgot what I paid for mine and we cracked the bottom in it on the 3rd or 4th trip. But I do like the length and low profile on the SSIs.

Why do so many of you dumbasses care? If you think a yeti is too expensive and don't like it, then don't buy it. For those that want one and put it to good use, then enjoy your yeti

This type of "yeti" arguement can be made for a lot of things... Watches, TVs, trucks, guns , game cameras, camo clothing etc

Just buy what you want and don't worry about what other people buy

If you forget to strap the yeti down in your boat you'll still own it when you get there. An igloo won't bounce twice before somebody picks it up.

What I don't understand is why one has to pay $300 to get a cooler w/ decent latches and hinges??....... For my uses, a run of the mill Igloo works just fine. But, I'd sure like to have latches and hinges that last more than 6 months!!

For some, it's the Cadillac effect. Others, particularly those in the fishing business may need the things. Whatever floats your boat.

Ice isn't all the same and the quality of ice can help you as much as buying an expensive cooler. I'm fortunate to have glacial ice in the lakes and that stuff lasts 2-3 times as long as non glacial ice.
