How much do other people at the range unnerve you?

My parents always taught me with driving, it’s not that they don’t trust me, it’s that they don’t trust everyone else.
How true is that for you when you go to the range? I’d imagine you really never just know if someone strolled in and has no idea what they’re doing.

Imagine being a range officer! You're all unnerving!

I spend as little time at an actual range as possible. Typically I just go to shoot my rifles a few times to verify they’re still zero’d and then I’m out. I prefer to have target practice in private places like cane fields where no one else is going to come close to shooting me. I can’t deal with people that don’t have the same gun control as me. That shite was drilled into my head probably since I could walk. The only reason I go to the range to shoot my rifles is because I dont want to shoot them in a cane field where the bullets could end up anywhere.

I look for people who don't take the range seriously enough for my taste. Usually the RSO will shut down the obvious offenders. I mainly have beef with people who bring rifles to an indoor range whose sole purpose seems to be just to throw a bunch of lead down range. If they're sighting a rifle in -- no problem. But making a bunch of noise because you're just f'in off is stupid and annoying.

I stopped going to one particular range because of the range officers. I’m all for safety, but making fun of novices with ones buddies that one saves a table for while only being 20ft away is trashy.

The range I prefer to use is run by Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Deputies, and they have closed circuit TV on each lane. They'll send the range master to see folks that don't seem to know what they're doing.

HEY NOW!
If you'd just leave me alone, I wouldn't paint everyone with muzzle when I turn to respond to you. The way I see it, YOU'RE the one making me more unsafe!
I was at a range once that had the ceilings built with a sawtooth profile. You know, on the side that faces the firing line, it's slanted so bullet strikes get deflected to the bullet stop and on the side that's downrange and protected are where the lights and other equipment are mounted.
SOMEONE. SHOT. THE. LIGHTS.
I have no idea how. I don't THINK it was a return to sender. Best I can figure is they shot the armored part of the target shuttle and splatter got the light.

That looks like the same range that the guy shoots a hole in his hand trying to see if the laser is working.

I go weekly, sometimes twice weekly, to the OPSO range in West Monroe. Nice setup, friendly and knowledgeable range officers with most every shooter there very like-minded, keep your barrel pointed down range. Still, I look at all the shooters I don’t recognize with a keen eye. Yes, I profile.

A buddy and I were at a local range shooting pistols. We were the only ones in there when a man walked in and set up in the stall next to us. Nbd we though, as he set up. His target moves out about 10 yards and we noticed he had a dot on his target. It was dead center, again nbd. Then he shot, and we didn’t see any holes in the area of his dot. Then he shot again and missed. After that shot my friend asked, did he hit the ground in front of the target? I didn’t notice. Then another few shots go by and we both see him hit the target hangers. We left after that.

I believe that happened at the range where I did my license to carry test. Texas Gun Club in Stafford.

I don’t get too worried at the range. But I would like to find a big empty piece of land to shoot by myself, in peace. That’d be rad.

I’ll tell y’all 1 good reason why I don’t go to the range.
Guy I know at the range minding his own business shooting and some jackass next to him drops his rifle and preceded to pick it up and while doing so accidentally fired the weapon. Striking my buddy in the right calf then exiting striking him in the left thigh and then entering his left butt cheek, somewhere in his left arse cheek the bullet said frick it and took a hard 90 degree turn and entered his right arse cheek! Passing only 1 inch from his a-hole
He fully recovered but it easily could have killed him or destroyed his bung hole and he would be shitting in a colostomy bag the rest of his life.
We got him drunk one night and made him show us his battle scars

Used to be a member at one that’s a good ways from my house. But it was the only decent outdoor range in the area at the time. I forget what the membership cost but it was worth it. I think a day at the range was $10-15 and the monthly was a little bit higher. Daily rate got you the public range. Members could use other private areas. You checked in, told them which range you would like, and if they were busy you got an hour before you had to check back in with them. If they weren’t busy you could stay as long as you wanted. They had 3 or 4 private pistol ranges that went out to about 15 yards or so. Falling steel plate targets. Places to staple up paper targets. And behind all that was a 100 yard rifle range. They would only let 2-3 people at a time on each range. Never had to deal with a crowded firing line.

I know bullets bounce around but the physics of this melt my brain

It really doesn’t make sense or seam possible but he has 6 different bullet holes from one round. Crazy

I belong to a private gun club that you have to qualify to belong. Rare to have issues with anyone.
More likely to have people and ask about your equipment than anything else.
On the 600yd range you actually have to lock the gate so no one comes in while you’re down range setting up targets.
