A friend of mines kid got popped $100 fine

However, Louisiana law requires all boaters born after January 1, 1984, must complete a boating education course and carry proof of completion to operate a motorboat in excess of 10 horsepower. The person may operate the boat if accompanied by someone over 18 years of age who if required has completed the course.

I didn't know until a few months ago. I was born in April of 1984 too.

Gonna have to take the course soon.

How dumb is it that the year stays the same as time passes, by the way?

It's very well known. I've had mine since 8th grade.

I knew that. I took the test a while back but somehow made a mistake on my birthday - said born 1986 instead of 1989 - so it was useless. I've never been stopped for it though.

Kids should be required to know proper safety and boating skills in every state.

Been stopped at least 5 times asking for it, but never got a ticket. Guess they are regulating it now. The online course is horrible. It makes you sit through 6 hours of lectures you more than likely already know.

Used to be able to skip the lectures, open two tabs (one with the test and one with the lectures), and knock it out.
