Looking for some insight on this particular ammo. I usually shoot only Winchester for my 30-06 but haven't been able to find any anywhere lately (an ammo shortage, crazy right?). My local dealer has tons of hornady American whitetail 150 grain though, anybody shoot these?

Really good stuff. Shoot it and never give it another thought. IMHO, better ammo than the standard Remington green box or Winchecter Silver Box.

I've never had good luck with accuracy when I've tried hornady ammo. I'll never try it again.

I haven't had good luck with Hornady loads . The few deer that ran after I shot left next to nothing for a blood trail . And they were pretty well placed shots . Maybe I just had a couple of bad boxes idk but I don't have much faith in them although some swear by Hornady

Last week when I shot my buck I was was only 15 yards away and shot it with the new hornaday lever revolution in 30-30, it had a large exit wound and I was impressed! But when cleaning the deer I found the copper casing but not the lead? Not sure why. It was a perfect broadside shot from ground level through the ribs. He only ran 15yrds and died in seconds. Not impressed with bullet separation.

It wouldn't group worth a crap out of my girlfriend's 243 with me shooting out of a vice. It was all over the place.

Haven't been hearing good things about hornady ammo in general.

Not desirable bullet performance, but not too unusual, either. Super close range like that really stresses a bullet. Velocity was really high so bullet expanded rapidly and a lot. Jacket and core separated. Core exited, but jacket did not. Had you hit a rib or shoulder at the entrance, the bullet might not have exited at all. To a degree, bullet penetration actually increases as velocity decreases; penetration decreases as velocity increases.

Hornady makes bullets for a lot of brand name ammo. It is a bigger business for them than their own brands I understand.

Hornady American Whitetail ammo

used some for my 45-70 back during the MS split and missed a doe. i went a checked my run and it made it shoot an inch high from when I sighted it in with Remingtons. Sighted it in and busted a doe with that afternoon.

I don't get it. If there was a large exit wound why would you expect to find any lead? Isn't the copper suppose to separate?

Hornady is the most inaccurate bullets I have ever shot. I thought my gun was screwed up trying to shoot that crap.

I guess it depends on the gun or caliber you're shooting. I shot 90gr hornadys out of my 257 weatherby mag and put 3 bullets in 1 hole. I have hornady vmax 110gr as my last 10 rounds in my 300 blackout magazine. My first 20 are barnes tac tx 110gr. I would get barnes over anything for any rifle if available. Once you shoot barnes bullets you'll never want to shoot anything else. Even when I shot a deer with a barnes tsx 55gr 223 bullet it blew its lungs to pieces and dropped in sight.

Hornaday whitetail ammo was not accurate for me 7mm mag 140 grain, but neither was Winchester silver box. Hornaday SST 139 grain very accurate.

Actually, the bullet (i.e. the copper jacket and the lead core) should stay intact and exit as a single piece. When the jacket and core separate, bullet penetration decreases. OTOH, it's not unusual for the core and jacket to separate. There's a whole industry of bullets (ALL the Barnes bullets, Bear Claw, Scirocco, Nosler AccuBond, Nosler Partition, Hornady Interbond, just to name a few) designed to rectify this problem. Nevertheless, the bullet DID kill the deer.

When I had my latest scope installed, we had to try a few different brands to see which grouped best and my rifle liked the Hornady's. Same with the 45/70.

And I haven't had an issue out in the field when dropping a deer.
