I signed up last week and pretty frustrated/pissed. I was told it would be $30 for the first visit then $55 for each additional time they come out and apply their product. Essentially a year would be in the area of $600.

They came out and applied Friday and then came Saturday and put 8 trays of St. Aug plugs down.

Today I wake up and see I had one charge for $80 and another for $140. I called and he said the $140 was for the plugs and possibly the $80 was for the 2 products they applied Friday, $30 for one and $50 for the other. That part was never explained to me. They also failed to tell me it was 140 for the 8 trays of plugs. I can get a pallet for cheaper than that.

I'm waiting on his call back but I'm tempted to ask for my money back, cancel, and just throw down some sod in the backyard myself and call it a day. I have a small backyard that would take maybe 3 pallets worth. My main goal is just to have a decent yard to sell the house in about a year.

Am I way off base or no? Is TruGreen really worth all that?

TIA!

Prayers sent....TruGreen is horrible.

The last time they stopped by to get my business I told them that if they did my yard AND paid me $100 a month I wouldn't let them do it....truth

I use them here. I am not overly impressed by any means, but they have never pulled anything like that on me.

ETA: stop using auto billing and pay online.

I use them and I was actually charged more one time than what we had agreed to (a similar deal to yours), however I wasn't charged that much more.

Long story short, I called and told them to either remove the charges and not do anything that would incur extra charges without my permission, OR cancel my service. They removed the charges in my case.

I've used them, or spring green.....not 100% positive which as I always get flyers for both. It was meh. I had no real issues, but my neighbor's always had greener yards, faster. My lawn guy said he does it for the neighbors. Just lets them know when it needs it, the I pay him 80 bucks to pick up the right bag and apply. Do it twice a year.

Tru Green came knock on my door about a week ago and said "you don't look like you really need any help, do you?"

Reminds me of when ADT knocked on my door to sell me a security system and my 90+ lb lab and mutt (rotty/Doberman/boxer?) mix nearly took the door down when they saw him. He just laughed, handed me a pamphlet and said if we ever thought about a system to call him and turned around.

It's pretty frustrating to learn that each application of a product is $50. So does the guy who said I had St. Aug in my front yard (it's obviously centipede) make the call of applying however many different products to my yard and bill me for each one?

Still waiting on the call from the person I originally contacted to sign up for the program...

They did something similar to us. Set an agreed price per trip. On the first trip they charged us for 3 services, with a full trip charge for each service. It ended up being almost $200. I called, complained, got it down to $80 or so and cancelled the service.
I use a local guy now. He is about $340 a year and it is 8 scheduled visits.

Mine was 39 bucks an application. 6 times a year. They just had a standard mix for each season. They'd mark certain things on the bill like "needs more water" or "dog urine burns in back yard". But they weren't giving me some great custom application.

My yard is pretty healthy, so all we are doing is applying a mix before winter, and one in February before spring. I let the yard guy handle it since I'd forget. It's like 55 bucks for the bag, and he charges 25 to apply it for me. If I had a spreader, I'd just do it myself.

TruGreen totally nuked my neighbor's front yard. Not sure what they did, but basically nothing green is left and it's all a brown wasteland. They told him it was an "airborne fungus", but it's pretty interesting that airborne problem only hit his one yard and none of us around him. You can even see the clear lines of demarcation where they were spraying and not spraying the adjoining yards.

let us know the outcome. i hate shady billing practices with a passion. So many people get taken advantage of and dont even know it because they dont look at bills.

They may very well credit you back the difference, because they are really looking for that person that wont question it.

We tried 'em once in BR -- had a patch of dead grass in the front lawn.

Fired 'em after two treatments. Services rendered vs. agreement vs. invoices were constant clusters.

There's one house in the neighborhood I live in that had a sign for TruGreen. It's not inspiring much business among jealous neighbors.

They suck! They destroyed my yard about ten years ago. They said if you don't like it, sue us.

Tru-Green is the worst. They said I would have about visits per year. They came times in the first month.

I fired their arse, made them refund my money and started treating it myself. Now my lawn is one of the best on the street instead of one of the worst.

My weed problem didn't get better under them either, it got worse.

Similar thing happened to me. Re-sodded yard in the spring. Looked great in the summer and fall. Next spring, yard is dead. Manager comes to my house & proceeds to tell me it is winter kill. I told the guy to look around at the yards near my house, why weren't they dead due to "winter kill?" I was the only one using their shitty service.

Update:

I never got a call back from them after they said they would look into the matter yesterday. I called today, got a sales manager. They offered free stuff to continue the service but I said I don't want to deal with it if I'm already this frustrated after a week of dealing with them.

Per our phone call I should be getting a full refund and cancellation of their service. We will see how long that takes.

Also, after 10 minutes of googling I found out that my centipede in the front was dying because I was doing too much to it (too much watering/fertilizer). I know damn well that the grass in the back is dead because of the dogs. I may try laying st. aug sod half the back and temp fence it to block the dogs. After it's established just switch sides.
