This.

OP, nothing is going to get that smell out. You now have a high dollar fish box. Or, just leave it in the back of your truck and hope someone steals it. Claim it on insurance.

Coat with a thin layer of dawn and fill with crumpled newspaper

Kitty litter with baking soda mixed in.

Leave fish in it for a month and a half. You won't be able to smell the beer any more.

Seriously, at this point I'd probably try an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle. I've had good success with it for pet stains. After that I might try OxiClean. And then I'd just leave it in the sun for a while.

I've had good luck with using coffee to get mildew smells out of cars.

I'd give it a shot. The odor may permeated the plastic, so IDK.

What if you were to lightly sand the interior surfaces?

Hmmmm...

Last resort, but that might work. That would make it more susceptible to stains and odors in the future, I think.

If the smell is soaked into the insulation I don't know how to fix. Thought about removing the gasket on the lid. No doubt that has some stinch to it.

I tried everything on my refrigerator/freezer after Katrina and this is what finally worked.

Yep. I put 1 pound in the refrigerator and another pound in the freezer.

I placed it on top of some newspaper, and after 2 days or so the smell was completely gone. Also, I kept the doors closed.
