Thanksgiving weekend. They hammered em after that freeze early November, and then when we showed up it warmed up and the mallards moved out for the time being.

Thanksgiving week. Ducks were there, just not in the dry fields. Buddy of mines group shot 100+ mallards in OK a couple days later.

There are places up there that do unguided hunts as well. We almost did that with 180 outdoors. $100per man per day plus $100 per night for lodge. That includes access to all their properties and some scouting reports. We decided to go with a full guided service, Tornado Alley Waterfowl, because we don't have most of the gear needed.
Our trip will be geese only because they were booked solid for duck season. We are headed up the fist weekend of Feb.

ETA:
Bad arse video! Hope to get some good footage on our trip.

Btw, all Canadas shot on this video are lessers. And they are still as big as a speck. Can't imagine greaters in our face like that. I will have to experience that one day as well.

The socks are pretty neat, easy to carry, not heavy, and probly be just as effective as full bodied decoys.

My theory

My better days are without a doubt 7+mph wind days. If you got that much, the socks move and look filled up like full bodies. With no wind they aren't as good, but I don't hunt big spreads with no wind

Cheaper (bigger spreads)
Easier to carry and set up
Move more

Better IMO
