Anyone use or have experience with one? A family member has one they never use and I'm thinking of getting it from them it is a LP3250 rated output is 3250 watts.

I would use it for occasional tailgate/car camping power and it would be my backup in the event of a (rare) power outage for essential item power.

Any thoughts or should I just go with the traditional gas powered? I haven't even asked how much they'd want but it's family and I don't see them trying to stick it to me by any means.

Thanks!

Plus you get more bang for your buck, you get a higher output with propane.

I've actually been told the opposite by a licensed generac repair man. He claims the gasoline actually helps lube and cool the engine where as propane actually runs hotter?

I've been told a lot by them also, half of it is BS. Those service contracts are BS, at least in NOLA.

I've been debating getting a service contract on my backup . I need to get out/find the owners manual and see how hard the regular maintenance is.

he makes moneydoing repairs.

combustion is way cleaner w propane which keeps oil cleaner.
a properly tuned propane engine will havr twice or more the engine life of gas.
I love ethanol because it makes me money

Here on NOLA, they are getting 600$ per visit which they recommend one before the season and one after. 1200$ and they do squat from what I've seen.

Propane will cost you a fortune compared to gas in case you use it a lot.

My electrician recommended propane powered and liquid cooled.

Propane EGen

Pro:
-Carb will never varnish / gum up.
-Fine for tailgate/camping & short duration use.

Con:
-Fuel cost much more
-You probably won't have enough fuel to last you much more than a day in the event of a prolonged power outage

He sounds like he doesn't know jack shite. Gasoline burns in the combustion chamber. Key words being "burns" and "combustion chamber". Knowing that, please tell me how it cools and lubes?

And I have a 17kw standby gen. Runs on natural gas. So I can't speak on the portable version. My portable is a 6500kw Briggs.

Do you have a propane tank at your house already?
If you do lpg is the way to go, the fuel does not go stale and will not varnish or gum up your carb. If not, getting your portable tank filled without electricity could prove problematic.

No I don't. Parish service line. I have...actually had...gas water heaters in the house so we already had service. Consulted them first and told them how much volume the generator required. With everything factored in they told me what size line I should run to amply supply the generac.
