Back in the day I used a stihl w/ the metal blade attachment that will cut sapling up to and inch or so. It was the most dangerous f’n thing I have ever done w a small motor, the kick back was amazing and scared the hell outta me, I am used to weed eater chain saws pressure washers, trash pumps etc but a blade spinning at f’n warp speed 2-3’ from my legs w/ no guard – yikes. Of course I didn’t have chain saw pants/chaps etc, I at least had on safety boots so my toes would be safe. Other than the safety factor that set up went thru long grass, weeds and sapling like buddah ………..
U definitely needed long pants, glasses, gloves etc w/ the Shiite (rocks, dirts, pieces of wood etc) that would fly from the blades

As far as weedeater string I like the square vs the round version and go w/ the largest diameter the weedeater will use because I hate repooling, my 18 year old has gotten good at lawn maintenance but he is off to college so its next man up now – time for the 13 yr old to take over. But I will go w/ bootleggers recommendation, we are amateurs on yard/lawn maintenance he is the pro

I guess I have one of those speed feed heads. I have a craftsman that I just put a ~14" string through two holes.

I must be doing it wrong. I hate dealing with it in every way. I hate getting the cap off my Stihl. I hate that the line jumps off the spool like Fluoro off a spinning reel. I hate that if I don't bump it every 25 seconds it breaks off at the head making me deal with the above. I HATE IT!

I don't think I've ever met someone who like weed eating
If they do they are probably insane

But if you don't do it your yard looks like shite

This is probably the pricing on the yard. 95% of cost = weedeating, 5% on lawn mower.

That's what I use.. They call it the ugly head at Lowe's. Just bought another one for a trimmer I picked up at a yard sale. $27 at Lowe's.

I had one of those on my previous weedeater. Hated the weedeater (toro 4 stroke) and really didn't like that head either.

Bought an echo last year with the speed feed head on it. That think is the best head I've seen. It makes it so easy to replace the line. I can seriously have it changed in less than 5 minutes, if that. Oh the echo 2 stroke is an awesome weedeater as well. Makes me hate trimming a just a little less.

I sat at lowe's for 10 minutes trying to decide between the echo head and the ugly head. Since I already have a pivot head on my Ryobi trimmer I just went with the same head for my newly acquired Shindaiwa (echo). I can't wait to get out and trim tommorow.

Picked up a Shindaiwa pre EPA trimmer for $15. Spent an hour cleaning the carb and the thing runs like a beast.

I think the thing people don't realize about regular heads is that you need to pull both strings once you get the head back on. It undoes them from the indents and sets it correctly in the head. I have zero problems doing it and like weed eating better than mowing
