So I'm in the market for a new bow needing to switch from the right hand bow I have to left handed, but as I'm looking at them it seems you get much more for the price in a xbow. Now I know it's legal to hunt in la all ages with them, but other then the typical "being a wuss" "not really archery" statements is there any big downside to hunting with x bow?

Are you a woman?

Are you elderly?

Are you disabled?

If answered yes to any of the above, you're in the clear.

It has been stated here before that only meth addicts use crossbows. If you're not currently using, you'll have to pick up a meth habit before you can legally own a crossbow.

I'm going to look at crossbows tomorrow. Selling my Elite and buying either an Excaliber Micro 355, TenPoint Turbo GT or Horton Storm.

love my Xcal matrix. switched two years ago from compound after over 40 years of hunting. I miss using that sweet bowtech admiral but it was no longer feasible.

don't pay attention to the naysayers. they aren't any more of a hunter than someone who chooses to use a xbow.

I dont see the big deal with using a crossbow is. It's legal so use it if you want to. I have crossbow and compound that I just bought. My hope to to get a deer and a hog with each on of them this year.

I have an Admiral myself and agree it's probably the best shooting bow I've ever had.

My dad used to hunt with one when he was in his 70's and enjoyed it. I killed a couple of heads of cabbage with it in his backyard. Found it to be extremely accurate.

I didn't know anyone could use them now. When he was hunting with his, I think you had to be over a certain age to use.

Lots of fun to shoot and perfectly legal.to use during bow season so go for it - most of the naysayers on here will say "your a woman, elderly, or handicapped", these same naysayers pull out there 35 wheelen, or 444 during primitive season because it's legal.

It's not about being a wuss. Hunting with a crossbow vs hunting with a compound/recurve are two completely different forms of hunting. Hunting with a crossbow is closer to hunting with a rifle.

They are a bitch to load, I would assume especially in a climber (unless youre hunting out of a box blind). They are basically a one shot weapon as well, due to reload time. They are also heavy as shite and I would assume it's awkward as hell hauling it through woods.

Youre switching from r/h to l/h? Im assuming shoulder surgery or something?

You need more than those? Well, in ten years when you've lost all self respect, and look in the mirror at your flat-billed image, you can look back on the day you bought a crossbow and know that that was the day your life spiraled into darkness.

It undermines how difficult it is to actually kill an animal with a real bow. It is like a rifle with limited range.

Do what you do man. Hunt by any means legal and in a such a way that YOU enjoy. The main thing is people taking credit for a "bow" kill on an animal and conveniently leaving out the fact that it was with a crossbow and not a compound. The crossbow hunter doesnt have to worry about timing the draw to be undetected. He doesn't have to worry about ranging nearly as much once the target is within 50 yards. He didn't have to put in the hours and and hours and years of obsessive practice to become skilled at putting an arrow on the mark.

The big deal isn't about someone using a crossbow. Go for it if it makes you happy and I hope you or anyone fills their freezer with game meat because at the end of the day youre providing for your family and carrying on the hunting tradition that human beings are derived from and that's a great thing.

Just don't call it bowhunting because they have nothing in common.

my personal opinion is that no able-bodied man should be allowed to use a crossbow during archery season.

They are very different hunting experiences. You don't have to draw back on a deer with a crossbow, you don't have to worry about the deer being on your off side where you can't draw the bow. You have a damn magnified scope on it.

My personal opinion.
