Grand isle is the winner for me but the camps and the insurance that you are required to have if you have a mortagage are absolutely insane.

I don't really understand why everything is so highly priced when half of the island is for sale.

Do to the fact that they are not making the island any bigger.

Family had a camp in Cocodrie, GI better if you have family/kids.

Oh, they still roll up the streets in the winter on GI.

Fish, do you still have that spare roll of fiberglass chop/stitch mat? I'm definitely still interested if the offer is still on the table

I have friends with camps at both places.

Cocodrie. Elevated camp with both house. To go fishing walk 5 steps lower boat and load up and take off.
can return for lunch and then go back fishing in the afternoon.

Grand Isle. Elevated house on beach. To go fishing, walk 2 steps to truck, load up and drive 5 miles to boat house,a major extra cost. Unload truck and load up cart. Pull cart to boat, lower boat and load up. When done reverse steps. In afternoon load up cart, cross the levee and head to the beach for an afternoon of fun and sun.

inshore fishing is better in cocodrie
closer to offshore in GI

money goes further in cocodrie

more non fishing shite to do in GI

like someone said earlier, if its strictly a fishing camp I'd go cocodrie. If you have a family and kids then GI is probably the better option

I like marsh fishing, and grew up closer to Cocodrie, so I love it there. Have friends with camps in Grand Isle. If you fish offshore more, Grand Isle. If you fish inshore more with a few trips offshore here and there, Cocodrie.

Uncle just built in the Coco Marina's new section and to be honest, he did a bit of the work himself and it came out to be reasonable. In the summer, you can walk to the Marina and get drinks and pretty good food. That's the life to me. Cousin has a camp further up the bayou that was great until they built the levee. It's still fine, but it would definitely be nicer if they had a lock closer to his boat slip. If I were buying there, that would be a priority. You have to leave 15 minutes earlier just to idle the bayou now.

Is Cocodrie that much better for marsh fishing? I go to GI/Fourchon area 3 or 4 times a year and we always catch them pretty good. IF Cocodrie is better than that I need to hit it up asap.

There is just a lot of marsh. You can get to PAC, Montegut, Dulac, etc. all from Cocodrie pretty easily. We could fish tuna from my cousin's camp, or head north and be in brackish water catching huge mullet fed reds. 5 minutes further and you can get into bass if you wanted.

So is it more of a choice deal? When we go to GI we are basically wanted to get into Reds/Specs. We do a ton of bass fishing throughout the year so that isn't something we care to catch. Out of GI we always catch a limit of reds and 3 out of 5 times we catch our limit of specs and generally we get close to a limit every single trip. Our next trip will be Cocodrie though. Should we just put the trolling motor down and fish or is there certain areas that produce more?

Grand Isle has marsh, but you have to head back up to get to it. I've honestly never fished the marsh from GI. I've taken bowfishing trips back in Leesville and that's very similar to Cocodrie. But every other time I've fished Grand Isle, it's been offshore.

Cocodrie just has marsh, Terrebonne Bay, the islands for specks in the summer, lake Boudreaux for specs in the winter, etc. It's not better. I'm just more familiar with it. I also find it easier to get to, but that was where I lived at the time. Both too far away now that I'm in Houston.

Dulac. Flip switch, boat in water in 45 seconds. 12 minutes to coco marina by boat for summer. 5 minutes to fishing inland in fall/winter. Ceana's Fried chicken. 3 shrimp processing plants 1 minute away to load up ice chest straight off the boat.

Cocodrie is the ticket for me. I looked at GI, the Foo, and Cocodrie, and ended up buying in Coco Marina. Inshore fishing is far superior to GI, and GI is only getting worse.

Lastly, I disagree with everyone saying if you have kids go to GI. GI's police dept is corrupt, the locals have the reputation of being corrupt and/or on drugs, and every time I've been I've had something stolen from my truck/boat, or someone tried to steal something from my truck/boat, or some fools get in a fight at one of the bars and ruin the vibe. This isn't the kind of place I want my kids.

(Knock on wood) I've never even heard of anyone having anything stolen in Cocodrie, except for once, and they went to jail for 10+ years.

That said, I can appreciate the draw of the restaurants and bars. The restaurant at Hurricane Hole is pretty good. Coco Marina's food isn't really sourced well and it mostly frozen stuff. I feel like there are one or two places in GI where the food is actually prepared as opposed to thawed.

Grand Isle has an ice cream truck too. Don't think he's still out at 2 am though.

For those that know, what is the best place to look for camps for sale. In the market for camp in Cocodrie, but I don't really have a good idea how much it's gonna cost.

I'd look north of the locks, the run isn't near as bad as it seemed early on. The lack of high water impact is nice with the levees and locks. Welcome.
