So your getting a replica of one you actually shot

That was the plan but, in retrospect I just really don't want a pheasant mount that much right now. I really like the dead hanging mount or even better a shelf or table top mount with the bird lifting off the ground. If I do get one in the future I would like it to be a father/sons things with my boys. I have a few years to wait on that.

and in general for this thread...

I was just curious.

I could understand that I suppose. It was a hunt you and your dad were on together. A great thing to look back on years from now hen he is no longer with you.

Exactly. I have another mount hanging at home that is a mallard hen and drake hanging dead. They came in as a pair and we knocked em both down. I shot the drake, he shot the hen. I dont feel guilty whatsoever having the hen that i didnt shoot hanging on my wall

I do have a skull mount in my office of a beautiful 11 pt I found last year while squirrel hunting after deer season. I bet the hunter that lost him could identify it. I just thought it would be a waste not to display it, and I tell everyone that looks at it where it came from.

Good post

I have a bobcat, 3 ducks and 2 deer. All of which I killed except for the duck that is part of the bobcat mount (Cat jumping thru air to grab woodie). At the time I did not have a duck to put it with but I wanted it mounted like that. Taxidemist gave me a wood duck he had.

FWIW I would never mount an animal that someone else solely killed. BUT I went on a hunt this season and killed the most beautiful pintail drake I'd ever seen. There was 3 of us and no one was really sure exactly who killed it becuase we dropped multiple in the flock. After multiple "If you dont mount it, I will" comments I gave it to my buddy to mount I think thats ok.

I have several mounts all killed/caught by me. Would never mount something I didn't catch or kill.

Short hijack:
Bleeding purple, I believe this subject was discussed some time ago and I think you posted a picture of a flat head. It was the nicest mounted flat head I ever saw. I catch those from time to time and am planning to mount the next one I catch that's over 30lbs. Would you mind posting that picture and maybe who did the taxidermy?

I have only ever killed one pintail and it is on the wall. I have a pretty big mallard mounted too. I have several european mounts from 125-110 either in the garage or attic, so I wont be mounting any deer unless it is a monster bow kill.
I wouldn't mount anything I did not kill, but if someone else does it, it doesn't bother me.

I had a January mallard go bad in the freezer a few years ago... so I've been wanting to get one mounted since. We had a group of 5 mallards come in on the last hunt... me and the other guy picked out the same drake and proceeded to miss the others. I know I hit him, but I didn't feel good mounting him... so I pulled the double curl out feathers out and he got et...

Alx I'm shocked and somewhat disappointed you didn't call his deer an 8 point...

Mounts really are cool. Mine have a special hunting memory that stay with me. Whether it be with my dad or my dog or whatever, I have them mounted the way they were when killed. I always remember every detail about harvesting the animal. My banded speck should be done in a couple months.

My wife of 27 years has basically said if I mount anything else she will catch me on fire while I am sleeping . I really think she is serious ...

I would never mount a deer or big game animal that I didn't kill, but with ducks I go back and fourth on it. I mean if it's something like a woody where I've killed 100s of and I decide I want to get one done and a buddy and me go hunting, say all the ones I shot were busted up, but he shot a beautiful drake in great shape. I don't see the problem in taking it to complete your pair to get mounted. Thats because I'm only getting them mounted for the aesthetic reasons of the woodies and it's not like I haven't killed plenty. Now that would be if it was at the end of the year or something. If I had all season I'd try to hunt until I killed the perfect bird.

I have never been a fan of replicas. It just is something about hanging the actual fish that was caught on the wall that I enjoy. Instead of looking at a fake fish that you did not catch. What do you tell people when they see the replica? This is what my fish looked like but "No" this is not the fish I caught.

Anybody else feel the same way about replicas?

I get ducks. They are beautiful. I'd rather have someone else's duck displayed in my home/office than a picture of a giant pear.

This. Especially hard to get a good specimen that isn't shot to hell.
