Has anyone hear of a boat going down next to Moxy?

The story I got with the pic was that they were diving and the plug was not in and no one stayed topside. They got back to Venice Marina to call the cops to open his truck up and the driver had a warrant out for his arrest so they took him to jail in his wetsuit. Sounds like bad day.

I know how stories can get twisted so i was wondering if any OB'ers knew of anything.

I heard the second part. Dude already had a warrant out. Didn't hear about the diving with no plug. I heard he blacked out while fighting an AJ and had to get revived. Not sure if diving or fishing.

Also, I heard the warrants were for over fishing Red Snapper...

ETA: The boats name is "Noah's Ark"

Damn that sucks. Gotta be sure everything is right with an offshore rig. Especially since there is no USCG required flotation on boats over 20ft. I can't imagine being underwater spear fishing and just seeing the boat sink out of sight.

Especially all the way out at Moxie. That's a shitty day.

That's a great photo.

Is it common not to leave anyone topside? Seems like it would be a good idea to have someone up there.

That has to be the worst thing in the world to see when you're diving offshore.

That's what the diving flag is for. Plus, if everyone on the boat dives, they all want to get in as soon as they get there.

ETA: But yes, it's a good idea to leave someone in the boat.

I thought the flag was to let people know where the divers were.

How do they know if it was the plug if nobody was aboard? I guess the boat was tied up to the rig? I wonder if it had enough negative buoyancy to straighten a rig hook? Coukd it possibly be sitting on the side of the rig? Strange deal.

Yeah, in general. What I meant was if you pull up to a rig and an empty boat is tied up, the flag tips you off someone is diving down there.

Oh man that sucks. How the hell do you make it all the way out to the rigs without knowing the plug was not in? Did they launch and head straight for the rigs? Seems they would have had to tie off some where to get bait and ice and notice the rear sitting kinda low in the water.
Also, would they leave the boat down there or lift it back up since its next to a rig?

Standard practice is to leave someone on board.
To leave no one is idiotic.

Yep and the biggest reason to me would be an offshore support vessel coming up to the rig. They give no fricks about your fiberglass fishing boat. Not to mention if the wind goes slack and the current isn't doing much your boat could be bobbin up against that platform tearing itself to pieces.

Yea I've never dove with out someone on board and them knowing how to beat a tank on the side of the boat for trouble. Couldn't imagine leaving it up there hopeless

Always had someone on board if not 2. Have had guys had to pull boat off the rig for various reasons before. If not boat would have been damaged or worse. To all jump in is just plain stupid. More balls then brains. Dangerous combo when spearfishing

Agreed. Too many variables and risk to leave it alone. They might have had more balls than me but at least my boat isn't 1000 ft down
