I forgot about the often overlooked Triggerfish...from what I remember, it was delicious, but I've also heard people damn near put them in the same culinary category as Gaftop LOL

Just cuz its caught offshore doesnt make it better. Personally have found grouper to be one of the most overrated. Good redfish on halfshell over grouper any day

Our local sushi place does a crispy wahoo salad with avocado, apples and a sweet sauce...it's about the best bite of fish you can imagine.

We catch Golden Tilefish out of Orange Beach, in 400-700' of water, deepdropping using electric reels. They are usally on the sandy bottom areas that adjoin the rock bottom. I've only done it a few times but there are people I know who catch them all the time.

Yes in LA. They left out of Fourchon on Reel Addictions new Freeman cat. They were going for swordfish.

Tuna (raw)
Wahoo
Blackfish
Very good but tile is probably the best I've had. I eat more specks, flounder, and reds than anything now that I don't fish offshore for a living bu no doubt they can't compare.

I agree with most here. Pompano may be best thing I've put in my mouth. I've never had tripletail so gotta reserve right to change opinion.

I don't think I've had 95% of the fish posted in this thread. I guess I need to become friends with someone with an offshore boat.

The best boat is a friend's boat

The best boat is your bosses boat as long as you get to go and bring clients. Then after couple hours clients too drunk and tired to fish. Then you can fish and catch all you want

Grouper

I'm astonished this wasn't on page 1. A good grouper has that soft meat like a flounder.

Also, the face meat from mangrove snappers is second to none. The taste and texture is the best fried fish I've ever eaten. Kind of a bitch to carve out the cheeks and throats, but your tongue will thank you later.
