Any opinions? I'm wondering where I'm going to practice shooting during the off season. Looking for the next closest place that isn't just a chair and a manual thrower (Sherburne).

Long time ago they had towers and auto throwers, but those have been gone for years. Unless they went and put new ones in in the last year or so. I used to go shoot out there pretty regularly with the manual throwers, but I started going to HR once I realized how much better sporting clays was for practicing. Not to mention 30 mins closer.

Wasn't there a place near Denham/Walker? Never went but thought I saw it on some local TV shows or something in BR area.

Edit: There's a couple of nice sporting clay facilities in Lafayette area, one is near airport. If you really like sporting clays, these places are far better than what Hunter's Run called sporting clays. Highly recommend it

You may be thinking of Riverside north of Watson. One of the best in the area in my opinion. Great course and staff! Unfortunately, they are rarely open to the public and have mostly benefit functions. They will be open to the public on Good Friday.

Might find some info here.

Covey Rise in Husser has a nice course, not sure if it's open to the public or have to be a member but I have missed a hell of a lot of clays out there over the years.

Yes. It was just across the parish line in St. Helena Parish. It closed, though.

I know a couple of nice places near Niagara Falls, the commute is a bi.. tho – 1200 mi, plus its a little chilly right now.

On a bit of a hijack of the thread, what are prices for sporting clays in LA? In Ontario we range in prices from $10-25 per 50 birds, most range in price from $10-15

In Oklahoma, it's about $25/50 birds FWIW and I have been really impressed with the courses available.

I think it was $24 per 50 clays at hunters run. Does not include the price of shells. And $16 on Thursdays.

I could stomach the $16 just fine. $24 is a lot though, so I tried to maximize going on Thursdays until my wife bought me a year membership in Christmas 2015.

I do believe that they are hosting a registered shoot (tournament) on Good Friday -- this may be different from what some envision as "open to the public."

Most places in ONT are not for profit gun clubs and there prices are <$15/50, the private for profit clubs are higher.

The for profit are more park like and shoot more frequently, the gun clubs shoot 1-2x per week.

To keep up the hijack what does trap and skeet cost?
In ONT its $5-7 for 25 birds for club members (membership $100-200/yr); for non club members its $7-10/25 , a for profit club I know its $10 for 25 plus a $400 annual membership.
I help run a club and we buy birds by the pallet and at $5/25 our profit is >100%

All this is plus shells, if you really want to get gouged buy shells at a gun club.

Good luck!

Too bad claytargetsonline.com shut down. They had a nice map of most of the ranges in La.

Lafayette has Wilderness, GOL, and Ed's.

Covey Rise near Hammond. They are hosting state this year.

Honey Brake on Lake Larto. Bring your wallet.

The pickins are slim in this state, unfortunately.
