Would I have killed it? Probably not, assuming if wasn't poised to strike.

I'm actually not upset about the 1 snake dying. Happens all the time on the highway. Just do not like the unethical slaying of protected animals just so you can post a trophy pic and the obvious teaching of these practices to youth. If some guy posted up a pic from killing a protected animal that wasn't "scary" everyone would be up in arms.

Crazy to think there are so many "outdoorsman" on this board, yet most can't even identify one of the few venomous snakes in their area.

I think we all said it was a copperhead; do you disagree?
My dad and I were taught to hunt by my uncle who was a forester. He shot every poisonous snake he came across because he had to work with them in the woods. One day he shot a rattler in front of a federal forester while cruising timber on Kisatchie. The Fed told him it was illegal. He said he shoots every poisonous snake he sees and would not work on Kisatchie if he couldn't. He got he contract, and several other afterward.
Hatred for snakes is Biblical; especially poisonous snakes.

I'm amazed at the "outdoorsmen" that post on the OB that run squealing like a little girl at the sight of a snake.

Gotcha, I think a lot of them are started just to generate discussion. Some may be legit questions.
The only snake thread I've ever started was about a rat snake in my firewood pile that I let live. He did startle the hell out of me when I first saw him.

Oh I'm not leaving. Haha, but thanks for letting us know little snakes frighten you, sweetheart.

Amazing how many do not realize the importance if these snakes. Are people totally ignorant to the negative effects of booming rodent populations? This is the sort of basic ecology every hunter should know bc it does affect them and game species.

uh, keep running your mouth and you might be leaving a little quicker than you think,, wanna bet?
since I'm your sweetheart, I'll let you know that little snakes don't bother me, but if they bother anybody, especially if poisonous, it's their choice on what they do, not yours, and I'm not going to address them as pussies and fairies, understand, pussy fairy?

I'm not the one trying to meet at sonic to square off. I pointed out that the action was illegal ad was obviously taught to the youngster as being a good thing given his little trophy picture. Hope he doesn't continue on in a life of poaching and disrespect for wildlife.
You sir deserve a cookie. Don't be so lame.
