We tried once to see if someone with a concealed handgun could draw it in time before someone who knew how to grapple decided to get a hold of them. Granted we didn't have anyone with a couple hundred hours at thunder ranch but not one single person could get it out in time, not even against the girls.

This is why people need to learn basic defensive training in addition to carrying a firearm. You need space. If you are close enough for someone to take hold of you, your window to draw your weapon has closed and you are very much at risk of your weapon being taken from you if you do attempt to draw. Too few people understand this.

No, it's not a black eye to CCW except in the minds of the resident ignorants that want it to be. FFS we've gone from around 4 million CCW permits issued around the US to 12 million in just the last several years. CCW permit holders commit crimes at much lower per capita rate than the general public and police officers, nobody says that number is zero.
