Does anyone know if a modern 16ga semi auto is currently being produced. With screw in chokes and can shoot steel. Thanks

I didn't even look at Browning, I heard they quit making them. I'm off to find one.
Thanks

Can y'all explain why you want a 16 ?

Not trying to disrespect y'all or the gauge -- I've never shot one, much less hunted with one.

All I remember is the old "conventional wisdom" that used to claim that the 16 gives the performance of a 20, with the recoil of a 12. Apparently this has changed ??

Why not more than any other reason for me probably.

I have several 12 and 20 ga and one old 16 ga.

I have a beretta silver mallard which has a bit of a hump back which I like a lot. I always wanted an A5 with that hump and if I'd get one, I'd probably opt for the 16 since I don't have but one which is a fixed barrel. I also feel like you can always find 12 and 20s but for a reputable model 16 to come out is pretty neat. I also like to hunt with a 20 ga a lot and feel a 16 is more or less in the same vane of what I prefer to shoot the most. I also like how it's a throwback and rare ga relatively speaking.

Wherever you heard it has the recoil of a 12 is beyond me cause that's absolutely false. I've got a Belgium made sweet 16 that was my grandfathers. It's the only shotgun I shoot now. To me it's a better shooting gun than the 20 and the 12.

I know browning advertises them the opposite (power like a 12, handles like a 20).

Since these are inertia, the recoil is more than gas.

Good to know.

I don't think I've ever seen one at a sporting clays tournament, and haven't seen any on my infrequent hunting trips. But I figured there had to be more to be a Paul Harvey style "rest of the story" (otherwise none of the manufacturers would be making them).

The old saying was "Carries like a 20, hits like a 12". As an upland gun, the 16 is excellent. For ducks in the decoys, it is a fine choice. I still shoot #4s in my old Browning Sweet 16. I kill limits regularly without cripples. It is not a long-range pass shooting gun or goose gun.

Shot my first pheasant with the Belgian Sweet Sixteen my grandpa gave me. The most well balanced gun you'll ever touch.

A real 16 gauge is lighter than a 12, kicks less, and patterns better. It is probably the best dove gun you can use. The Belgian sweet 16 was what my grandpa and a bunch of his friends used and my dad used the same most of his life. Hell I even used it a few dove seasons. The problem that 16 gauges got was a lot of newer models were built off of 12 gauge guns so you lost a lot of advantages of the 16. I think the new browning is a clean sheet design that doesn't use a 12 gauge as it's base. I have never used one but from what I have read it is a great gun.

Depends on the gun. I had an old 16 ga Winchester model 12 w/full choke and that SOB kicked like a fricken mule!!

Has anyone been anywhere where they are in stock?

My 16ga weighs about as much as a popcorn fart. Shooting buckshot flat out sucks, but it patterns it soooooo good

IMHO the issue with the 16 is everyone wants a 3 1/2 mag to dove hunt just like they need a .300 ultra mag to shoot deer 75 ft away from a box stand, it is a dick measuring contest.

The advent of steel shot also made ducks a bit more of an iffy proposition

I have every Belgian A5 and my favorite two by far are a 16 and 28 guarge, the 28 is has murdered many a rabbit squirrel and dove, there is no better light duty shot gun. There is also very little a 16 can not do in the proper hands with the proper load, ducks is just not its forte any longer due to the steel regs.

I agree with islandcat, a 16ga on a 12ga receiver is stupid and pretty much killed it. The 16's built on 16 receivers are very sweet shotguns. I have an 11-48 that weighs nothing and patterns beautifully.

I would LOVE a montefeltro 16ga. Just can't make myself like the new A5

While I am sure I have seen one I have never pulled the triger on one of those, that is pretty absurd.
