On Outside the Lines on ESPN right now. Cost starts at $65,000
Might be the most physically challenging feat on Earth.
The Sherpa's are bad arse, 16 died in ice avalanche last April 18th.

If I didn't have a family and someone gave me the money to do it I'd think about.
There are more challenging/dangerous climbs.

This is green boots. He/She has been on Everest, along with many others for decades.
I have a rule I live by. If there are ever decades old corpses strewn about while doing a hobby. Stop doing that thing.

I can see the allure to do something so few others have even tried...and even fewer have suceeded at doing...
the risk for sumitt is just too high, but I might try base camp....

That's the case on that mountain.
I'll never attempt Everest but I won't quit being a mountaineer.

I dont like cold, dont like heights, dont like being around nothing but guys. so no.
I am satisfied with being in a group of people that are even fewer. finder of Botrychium lunaroides.

That isn't the case with Everest.
K2, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Gasherbrum IV and Kanchenjunga, yes.
Gasherbrum IV has been summited by less than 15 people.
This is nothing against your post but people go nuts over Everest when it just doesn't stack up against the truly difficult mountains to climb in the world. The inexperience of the people now climbing Everest is the biggest problem with climbing the mountain.

The kill rates on most of the peaks you listed are astronomical

I value my life way more than that.

I wouldn't take 65k to do it, much less pay it.
Posted on 4/12/15 at 9:21 am to LSUintheNW
Yeah, most people don't even try Gasherbrum IV because of the difficulty and the weather patterns around it.
Posted on 4/12/15 at 9:31 am to BooDreaux
Nope. Not even if it didnt cost a dime

It's the highest, end of story. People going to spend 65K to be guided to the summit want to get home and say they climbed the highest mountain on earth.
Reaching the third highest peak rated the most difficult climb doesn't have the same ring to it.
That being said, Everest is plenty tough enough.

Nope.
What's the death rate? Gotta be high single digits. 7-8-9%??
There is no activity that I want to engage in Thats that high.
Add to it the misery you must endure. All the while you are looking at your Sherpa. Knowing that guy is much more bad arse than you.
