Teaching. I'm a teacher; trust me it's so bad that I have to spend more time complaining about it then actually doing it.

Teachers and it ain't close.

Working at a high end retail clothing store is better. You can go out after work without smelling like a dumpster.

I was just more speaking as a monotonous and unfulfilling job mainly. Gotta be boring as shite

I've worked extensively in both and retail is by far the easier gig. Let's put it this way, people usually do not come into a clothing store expecting you to have exactly what they want and to have it immediately placed in front of them.
People are highly irrational when it comes to getting fed.

I guess I don't know enough teachers, but I do know a good amount of people that work in the food industry and all they do is complain about the job that they voluntarily chose.

Greatest 3 years of my life was in college when i was a stock guy for the Limited clothing store. Had about 30 workers- 29 women and 1 man.
Damn, i miss those years...

I would rather wait tables no two ways about it. I've done both. Much prefer waiting tables.

Is retail that bad? Seems like the guys working in lumber and selling floor at Lowe’s have it pretty good. I know certain positions where I live pay $16-$18. Seems like a good gig for someone without a college degree.

Fast Food. I worked it growing up and the shifts always flew by... versus standing around on a sales floor bored all day.

When people are shopping, they go into this absent minded haze where they become the dumbest people imaginable. Smart people become idiots, idiots become vegetables. It’s absurd. Lack of special awareness, inability to see something right in front of them, inability to recognize when they are in someone’s way, etc.
It’s the damnedest thing.

Probably retail, food service can be a bitch with customers, but the staff always has a blast.
Pretty much this. Food industry peeps like to party.

Done both, Food Industry, once you work in on restaurant you don't want to eat there anymore

Nailed it.
Also, not all retail is created equal. Most here have talked about working in clothing. That sounds like a cakewalk compared to the grocery side of retail.
Grocery is fast paced, heavy lifting, and dealing with rude, mindless customers.

Yea, there’s no comparison to folding clothes.

My first few jobs were in kitchens, never worked retail. Working in a kitchen blows but you don't have to deal with customers so I would think retail is worse.

I slung car audio at a shop while in college. Was on commission and would make 40-45 a year. Was perfect gig while in college. I don't think I would have been able to wait tables.
