Sammich. It was funny the first time about 10 or more years ago. I won't patronize a food outlet if they serve "sammies."
I don't particularly mind "hose-pipe" or "zinc" as they are so New Orleans, and with television we are losing some of our regional dialects in this nation. While education and good communication skills are imperative, we are losing some of our color. It's a tough thing.
