Ive heard the same, although the variant was that they were the most venomous spider in the world....but doesn't have the fangs to penetrate skin.
In reality, they don't even make venom.

According to wiki, that's a misconception.
In reality, so they say, it is a spider that does have short fangs. However, they say their fangs are similar to those of the Brown Recluse. So, it's possible that it does not produce venom.
