it's speed more than altitude, phones cant latch on to a tower above about 210kts, and Lord knows I've tested it a few times

Ah. OK. Makes sense. I always figured it was altitude. I've definitely tested it myself at times trying to get off a critical email at the very last second.

Is there a legal issue at play here?

I'd probably be showing everyone around me what was going on in the hopes that they'd advocate for me and give me space to make the call.

the timing of this couldn't have been worse, the FA's are trying to get ready for takeoff, and everyone thinks the regs regarding PED's are meant for everyone else, so they are spring loaded to just tune out the passenger and say turn it off or put it into airplane mode, they are not supposed to call the cockpit during this phase unless it's a safety issue regarding the plane or a security issue, or some sort emergency, it's just a bad time for this to have happened and a bad time to communicate your needs because of everything that's going on

The fricked up part is that they didn't even notify the pilots of the situation

Welcome to the post-9/11 world. I miss the days when you could sit on a commuter flight and the cockpit doors were open the whole flight. You could watch the landing from almost the perspective of the pilot.

I love American today. Let's sue a flight attendant for doing what they are required to do by law.

I'd bet $100 many attorneys called HER.

I applaud you on your not-so-subtle subtle brag.

Bravo!

you never know about frivolous law suits, but a group of passengers tried, unsuccessfully, to sue United because they "experienced the fear of possibly dying" when the plane they were on made a precautionary landing due to a mechanical issue(this was shortly after the crash of UAL232)

She texted instead of called him back?! What the frick?Yeah, I didn't get that part. I would have been on the phone and someone would have had to forcefully remove the phone from my hand

text makes a better record in court when she sues the airline for being mean. does anyone really believe that the flight attendant "slapped" her phone down and then basically just told her "tough shite frick off"? Sounds staged to me. No life insurance? Manufacture a lawsuit on your way out to provide for your loved ones. Maybe I'm just jaded...oh well.

Why didn't she just call 911? This doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. I can understand if they wouldn't let her off the plane and she wasn't able to force them but she could have used her phone to call 911 or call a neighbor or family member close by to try and go to the house. She could have also called him instead of sending a freaking text. Really? No wonder he killed himself, she couldn't be bothered enough to call him and ask him not to kill himself, she just texts a simple "no."

So.....her husband has been stressed but she thinks it's a good idea to go to New Orleans for a fun weekend trip. Doesn't sound like a very compassionate wife.

Well crap, if I knew my husband was feeling suicidal I'd call anyway. I'd think it would be worth whatever BS charge I'd get arrested for to save my husband.

who knows? maybe she was the reason the dude offed himself, it is why husbands usually die before their spouses, because they want to

My guess is that he had been texting all weekend and she was basically sick of it. Probably just a token reply text and she would "deal with it" when she got home. Then gets home and finds out he actually did it. Much easier to redirect her self guilt onto someone else.

There are appropriate 'get aways' like wives going to a beach house or husbands going on hunting trips and such.
But trips to Nola or Vegas are not okay in my opinion if you're seriously settled down or married.

What in the frick
