The western US is like Japan in that there isn't a lot of hospitable/livable land in relation to total area. Japan is the size of Montana but all 130 million live in an area about the size of Ohio.

There's certainly lots of pressure to limit motorized use in some areas.

I choose to support organizations like the AMA that lobby for maintaining motorized use in these areas. They have had some success in maintaining land use rights for motorized vehicles and have even gotten areas opened up that were never open before.

But I agree there is constant pressure from tree huggers who think any type of motorized use is too much. These are the same folks wanting to ban lead ammo (a roundabout way to limit your gun rights).

good lord...trees you dumb sumbitch.

back during the days of western expansion, expansion/migration stopped in the plains because there were no trees to build dwellings/houses, fuel for fires, etc. and current geographical population centers reflect historical settlements, which in the grand scheme of things are that far removed in time.

The next time you have two consecutive weeks off of work, drive up to 20 from wherever you are in LA (assuming you're there), go west til you hit Dallas, then hop over to 40. When you hit Flagstaff, turn North and go roughly north to Tahoe. From there, head directly west til Hwy 1, and turn south. Once you hit I-10, come on back home.

It will make a lot more sense then.

I'll bet it is fracking-related development around the greater metropolitan Dickinson, ND area. All the satellite well facilities and support infrastructure.

The Line of Demarcation didn't run through what is now the United States. It ran through South America up through Greenland and divided the heathen lands between Spain and Portugal.

Unless you're just referring to a dividing line or boundary... in which case why in the hell would politics cause us to divide our own country? What political purpose does that serve?

From reading your posts it seems like you believe someone (demons?) divided the country in half, kept the lights turned off, and is using this to drive up the cost of water. Do I have that all correct?

Winnipeg? Population 630k.

Hmm. Upon closer inspection it looks to far west to be Winnipeg. I got nothing.
