I have a hard time answering this question. By the time I was 11, I had lived in 5 different cities in 3 different states.
I am 42 now, and I have lived in 10 different cities in 7 different states.
I am not a military brat although my father was in the military when I was born but was discharged a few weeks later.

I usually interpret this question as "Where did you spend your meaningful growing up years?" In order to avoid a long arse history. Like if you were born in London but lived there for 3 months until you moved to some shithole town in Mississippi, then a-hole you are from MS.
I have a hard time answering that, b.c what are the meaningful years? I went to high school in texass and usually say texass. But I don't have any family there any more, and I hated it.
You probably get "Nevermind" with a a lot huh?

This isn't even close to being one of rebeloke's worst threads.

When someone asks a question for which I think they deserve no answer, I feel free to tell whatever I feel like telling them, truthful or not. I may BS them. I may lie to them. I may tell them the truth.
Whether I think they deserve an answer to the question depends on the context in which it was asked.

You mean like, where do I live, where did I grow up, or where was I born?
Like, unless you are applying for citizenship or running for President, no one gives a shite where you were born.
So it's like, one of the other two.

My answer is always:
"I grew up in________but I live in _______now"
Currently reside in same city as OP :(

Where you from? Who you claim? The wrong answer can get you killed.

I have a hard time answering this question for several reasons. I was born in Nebraska but spent most of my childhood living in Kansas. Lived all my teenage years up to currently in Louisiana so I guess I could say I'm "from Louisiana" since I've spent most of my life here. However I've lived in several places in Louisiana ranging from Shreveport to New Orleans and Baton Rouge. So it gets pretty damn confusing when people want to know where exactly I am "from."

It makes folks defensive I guess. I am proud to tell someone where I am from when asked.

From where I grew up, or from where you live? I've lived where 'home' is now for over ten years, but if someone from there asks me where I'm from I tell them the town I grew up in in Louisiana. When I travel for work and people ask me where I'm from I tell them where I live.

Why is the question 'where are you from' difficult?
If it's someone within the state, I say I grew up in "abc", but live in "def"
If I'm out of state, I just say I'm from wherever I'm living at the time.

"Where do you stay"
Had a cop ask me this when I was staying with family in another state one time. I kept answering that I was staying with family. It took a few tries before I figured out that he was asking where I was from.
I thought I was going to get beaten for misunderstanding.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge until college and after college I now live in Nashville(5 years now), where I'm married and employed.
Where am I from?
I usually say, "I'm from Baton Rouge, but live in Nashville".

Military brat here, moved 11 times before I was 10 years old. I just say "I've lived all over the country but I was born in Gulf Port". It's not that hard of a question...

I got to be honest with you... It moved.
