They need to hire people to run over them in the parking lot.
Posted on 7/2/17 at 4:27 am to cubsfan5150
They do. It depends on the store.

Their crap's not worth the trouble, pretty funny that anyone would want to steal it.

I worked a bit for Academy Sports, we didn't immediately call the police on shoplifters. We still nabbed quite a few on surveillance with license plate numbers, but calling the police right away won't do shite.

I practice in criminal law and I can tell you that (at least in GA) Wal-Mart takes shoplifting very seriously and has spent money on the best surveillance equipment I have seen.
I would hazard a guess that more than 75% of the shoplifting cases prosecuted locally come from the Wal-Mart. That is not the only place being hit, but it is the one place you are likely to be caught and prosecuted.

They told him they had seen him the day prior but he made it outside so they couldn't do anything... not sure why.
Awhile back a clerk from some store chased a thief out and got shot outside the building. Now no place has their people chase outside

They and other large chains simply write of X amount of losses to shoplifting and pass the coat alon to us.
Just like providing them housing, food and child support - the rest of us pay for it

I guess that it's not true, but I've always heard that Wal Mart had a policy that it will always prosecute shoplifters regardless of the value of the item. This was it's policy so it would get a reputation of being tough on shoplifters and that would be it's primary defense. I also heard that Wal Mart will never settle lawsuits from the stores, such as women falling on slippery floors and such for the same reason. It's starting so sound like I heard a bunch of bullshite.

Wal-Mart proabably makes profit when two shitty Vizios made in Cambodia get stolen. They have robbed much more.

I have a friend who has worked in retail her whole life & she always amazed me by telling me how many national stores do not prosecute shoplifters. She was a mgr at Victoria Secret, and not only could she not call the police, it was a fireable offense if she or her staff even pursued a shoplifter. They had a perfume that was very effective at keeping mosquitoes away from fishermen. Every spring & summer her store would lose, literally, boxes & boxes of it in total theft by local fishermen. Ask yourself just how noticable any fisherman would be in V.Secret store. Macy's, Dillard's, Sears, she said a lot of the major chains just write it off.

And in the end, costs them less, by not having to load up on court cases and lawyer fees.
What lawyer fees?

Those people are usually repeat offenders or come back to the same Walmart soon after.
They wait for them to come back and bust them the second time around.
Also they'll let people steal small amounts of stuff over a longer period of time and wait until that person racks up enough stolen merchandise to warrant a felony charge. They do this to their employees a lot.

Ditto. My ex was the manager at a store in the mall and although she was hell bent on catching shoplifters and prosecuting them because it hurt her overall numbers, the majority of stores in the mall have policy to let them go.
It boggled my mind how much shite got stolen from the mall.

Home Depot has a similar policy where you steal from them and they will just let you walk.

We've heard it all before.

A stolen item is just like a sale in an earnings report. You can write off the loss. Why would I discourage that
