Because people from Metairie tell people they're from New Orleans because the wish so so badly they were born 5 miles to the east.

I hate when Metairie people go out of town and say they're from NOLA then come home and want to build a taller wall at the parish line. Jefferson Parish people are NOT New Orleanians so don't go out of town and fake it.

Right b/c when you are on vacation in some random city and tell people you are from Metairie they know exactly where that is. Just easier to say New Orleans and cut out all the explaining.

Why do people in Louisiana clamor for more police and more layers of government?

People act like they are unaware that the smallest podunk governments/police departments in the state are also the most corrupt and incompetent.

THIS!

It is a time-honored Louisiana tradition to create fiefdoms that dispense jobs to political cronies.

Does a levee need a police department? Does the Causewaay need a commission? Does every department in the State's government need its own CIO?

I don't get having all these city police departments. Just seems like a huge waste of taxpayer money. Is any police department preventing crime? No.

Correct.

Look how crime has fallen even with labor and budget cuts to police departments.

Yet, they still whine that they "need more officers".

No, you don't. You need more jail space.

Why you mad though? A lot of metairie folks are those who lived in Orleans and moved a long while ago to escape the local gov of Orleans and piss poor allocation of their taxes. My folks grew up in the quarter, it was a long time back but today its a completely different world, night and day. Many folks who now live in metairie and say NOLA when asked where they are from are probably more of a New Orleanian than most of the special ed folks who actually live in the parish.

Unlike many small areas and since it has been mentioned here several times so far, I would argue the Causeway actually needs a police force. Who else is going to patrol and provide service over 24 miles of water? You certainly aren't going to have JP or Mandeville PD out in the middle of the lake working a wreck. At the same time, it is ridiculous that the Miss River Bridge can't be split between NOPD and the SO or PD on the West Bank. They do it in Baton Rouge that way.

Metairie , Marrero , bridge city , Avondale , terrytown , are all unincorporated parts of Jefferson parish , they have a sheriff and parish president....

Westwego, kenner , and Gretna are incorporated areas of jeff parish and have a mayor and police chief....but we also vote in jeff parish elections...

I live in Westwego so I get to pay property tax to Westwego and jeff parish ....

also our brake tags in Westwego all expire on January 1st every year and there is no date on them, they just change colors every year...

if you get arrested for a felony in Westwego you go to the jp jail and court system...

if you get a misdemeanor or ticket you go to court in Westwego....

Houma has a police department for God sake and from what I hear it is riddled with corruption.

Harry built the Jefferson Parish Sheriff department into one of the largest and most well funded departments in the whole country.

Harry was pretty much an untouchable and was one of the most powerful men in the state.

No additional city taxes. Metairie was intentioanlly unincorporated to escape the additional layer of city taxes of new orleans. The northsore is where you escape to corroded downfall of metairie.
