Why doesn't Metairie have a Police Department?

Population of 130,000. I know they have the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Dept for law enforcement but why no police?
Every other little town has one.

Metaire never incorporated under the Lawarson act. It could, other cities have, and St. George will try to.
