A French press is arguably less fancy than automatic drip coffee maker.

And a pour over maybe even less so.

Well you failed when you started talking about the bloom in coffee

I have this book sitting on my coffee table, an espresso machine and grinder imported from Italy, and a cabinet full of coffee paraphernalia. I have to rein in my autism a little bit when I see a thread like this or I'll get labeled a douchebag. Still not as bad as beer nerds, right?

There are limits to my coffee making lengths, but using recently roasted beans, grinding fresh, using filtered water and using a good brewing mechanism are all low hanging fruit (especially the first 3+ using a good auto brewer).

Beer nerds are fine, beer snobs are the assholes. IPAs are good, lagers are good. Beer is good!

Like instant mash potatoes, I have tried to convince myself fresh ground coffee is better

Truth is, it isn’t discernible unless you really really try and taste the difference or have a pallet that is a douchebag

Dude -

Instant mashed potatoes are absolutely garbage compared to the real thing. That is not a good analogy. I don't mind pre-ground coffee, grinding is just a fairly noticeable difference for very little extra effort. I'm not serving anyone instant mashed potatoes in my house.

I grind coffee instead of buying preground coffee for the same reason we cook instead of heating up frozen meals.
What an illogical analogy.

I don't understand that either

Are people not allowed to have a preference? this is an incredibly dumb take that i never understood.

I do drink my coffee black, and i also add cream and sugar. who gives a frick?

Do you shite on people who add salt to their food too? its a personal preference, and the fact that pre ground coffee, and adding cream and sugar bothers you this much is pretty weird.

you care what color shirt people wear too?

I just wrap a spoonful of grounds in a filter and shove it in my lip.

Oh, well this is odd.

It's no different than anything else that one can make but chooses the shortcut. Do you always make pizza, lasagna, or anything else that can be ordered or pulled out of the fridge/freezer? I bet I have more shite that's homemade/home grown than alot of people in this thread.

Why don't you try other kinds, and why be snarky with the "rare bean" comment

Because I like what I drink now. Nothing snarky about the rare bean comment--it's just a fact. I'm drinking coffee that I buy on sale for $5. It's not a $20+ bag of coffee. Obviously every $20 bag is not rare coffee (hell, none of them are I guess). But the point is the same--I don't drink expensive coffee because I don't feel the need to, nor do I worry about the minor differences between what a pre-ground $5 coffee and $5 beans.

I put chocolete syrup and milk in my coffee, then pit it in the blender with ice cubes. I doubt I would taste any difference if I ground my own beans

What do coffee snobs think of instant coffee?

Also what about iced/cold brew coffees already made?

I bought some sweet Starbucks cold brew and mix it half with French vanilla over ice. It was a nice cold sweet twist to coffee.
