This. I delivered pizza in high school and the owner charged $.75/delivery and paid that to us each night to cover our gas. Man gas prices have really changed in the past 18 years lol

The amount paid to drivers for gas hasn't increased much. They have to buy their own gas, insurance, tires, etc. out of that $1-ish "reimbursement". The $3 delivery charge forces the customer to cover that directly now, plus an extra $2 to the owner.

If you deliver to a good area you can make decent money. When I delivered part time some during college I could make $100 on a good night and usually at least something like $50 in tips. We were near a commercial area so drivers during the day could occasionally make pretty good money on some catering orders. It's a decent little gig for what it is. Wear on the car does suck though.

I worked for the Dominoes on Severn in Metarie for a few years. It was great because the area was small and densely populated. Even if tips sucked you could make up for it in sheer volume and short travel distances.

When I moved up here the area was much larger and poorer. I'd struggle to pull in 30 bucks a night some weeks.

I haven't ordered pizza delivery in over a year, wtf is this $2.95 delivery fee that isn't part of the tip, what is the store having to do extra that's worth $3?

It is probably similar to airline "fuel surcharges" which never had any thing to do with fuel costs

It has more to do with the price of cheese than with the price of insurance.

I'd rather drive myself, wait, buy the pizza, wait, and drive home than deliver because of that stupid fricking fee.

That and co-pays make me irrational.

I know a guy who used to be a cook, then an Uber driver and now he delivers at Dominos, he says a bad day is like $100. So that's not bad.

But $100 a day really isn't great for an adult.

I tend to agree but it's been below freezing here for two days, I paid the fee! They got it here in under 30 minutes so the driver got a nice monetary tip.

If you are 30 relying on being a delivery driver for a pizza restaurant as a full time gig then you might be in a little trouble. But if you are a teenager or college student looking for some extra cash on the side for beer or video game money then there are worse options.

From my one downvote, it looks like we have one among us.

It is real simple, the pizza place is not offering free delivery, they will deliver for a fee. They hire the drivers, train them, schedule them, insur them, pay them. You pay for the product and the delivery fee, tip if you choose to, but the delivery fee and the tip are 2 different things

And it has more to do with the company wanting to increase its profits than cheese, insurance or anything else.

Don't know exactly what you are asking, but in store workers are the same, they just get paid a higher hourly rate and generally do not receive tips
