The question that he is getting at is why isn't the cost of all that stuff associated with the delivery simply included in the price of the product like it is with the in store workers? What makes the delivery need to be treated as a separate entity that gets its own fee?

I think the answer may be that by its nature it is easier to separate. It isn't necessarily used. That is to say not all pizzas made need to be delivered, but all pizzas regardless of whether they are delivered or picked up need to be made.

Because it is an extra service involved, want to buy a pizza and come and pick it up?price is X dollars, want us to deliver the same pizza to your house ? it is X dollars+ a delivery fee?

When your main business is delivery, is it really an extra service?

The delivery fee goes towards employing an extra person in order to bring your lazy arse food.

I think so, another option would be to offer a discount to carry outs?

And the delivery fee works out better because it is priced per order and not per pizza, so the house that orders 8 pizzas pays one delivery fee vs a couple bucks extra per pizza the same as the guy that orders one pie

Think it has to do with paying for the insurance.

I love how Papa John's says he can't afford to pay his employees insurance, but yet he lives here:

He has his own gas station car wash. Jesus Christ, try to be a little more subtle when you're fricking over your own employees.

Haven't had major pizza chain pizza in a long time. Last was pizza hut.

Is domino's the goat right now with the major chains?

Yes. The delivery charge youre paying now goes to insurance, inside labor, AND the technology they have to pay for to maintain current maps GPS data.

Shouldn't the unemployment rate be zero. Don't tell me there aren't delivery drivers jobs available 24/7

I delivered food in college. When gas jumped up, they added a dollar fee to the delivery as a gas surcharge. There was no fee before that. At the place I worked, we got the dollar. That was on top of minimum wage and tips. Does not sound like what Domino's does. Box says it's not money directly to the driver. I think it's a bit ridiculous and they just charge it because they can.

The driver doesn't get the delivery fee and you should tip for good service.

Or get off your arse and pick it up yourself. That simple.
