They double as phone sex operators when not taking police calls

Screw you.

I work for a small town FD, we only have one paid guy on at all times. We dispatch the PD in our down time.

Why are the rest women? IDK, cant take the road? I know for sure that if I was a cop I would want to be on the road. I couldnt take this job if it was all I did.

ETA: I am an OT6......

But not a She.

Because police forces were made to hire women, and that's where most of them went.

My ex wife was a dispatcher and the only time they've actually had a male officer in the radio room was when he would frick up on the road. The sheriff used to demote the officer to radio duty for a month or so as punishment.

because it is the sort of job where you can take off to have a kid and come back? at least easier than out in the field, don't have to shift around partners for 6 months, etc.

kind of like dental hygienists being female

I knew one who just became a full officer after being a dispatcher. Nice girl, been knowing her since I was 12. Funny thing is though from like 1998-2004 she was dating a guy who was one of the bigger drug dealers in Metairie.

Kind of weird to go from drug dealer to cop, but oh well everyone can change I guess.
