I think it's more the father in law trying to show dominance over this guy in front of his daughter than it actually has to do with the dog.

That's kind of the vibe I was getting, too.

Us Sirs have to be exceptionally courteous. It's in the oath we took. I was just reminding him of that

Big time dog people are legit crazy and animals on the furniture is disgusting, for someone else to think they can force their nastiness on you is unacceptable. Your future in-laws are terrible people.

My dog is only allowed on the sofa, where other people sit. He's not allowed on either of the recliners. You are right in this situation, the parents are being dickheads. And yes, Im trashy.

Your house, your rules. Make sure when you go visit them, you bring your lab.....and sharpen his nails so they punch holes in his furniture. And make sure you change his diet for the trip, so he'll take a crap on their floor also.

I can't stand people who go to someone else's house and try to change things. Especially when you keep dragiing the idea along by constantly criticizing the rules. I have relatives like that also. I'm fine abiding by your rules at your house. Live by mine at my house or don't come over.

Oh you've got one of those father in laws too?

Wife and I once went almost six months without speaking to or seeing her dad that lives 20 mins away because he was mad that we didn't want to sleep at his house Christmas Eve and stay there all day for late lunch at 3pm. I mean screw seeing her mom or my family; or having any kind of plans ourselves, right?

My little brothers FIL is awesome. They do stuff all the time, go fishing, see then regularly. I've been together with my wife now for 13 years (married 7). We dated from high school all through college. I still don't feel completely welcome around her dad.

Your house, your rules. If they dont like it they can stay somewhere else. We have a small dog inside dog, allowed anywhere. He travels most places with us, at my uncles place they dont let their dog inside except to kennel. My dog gets the same treatment when we are there. I dont take offense to his rules in his house, I have rules at my house that I expect guests to follow too.

Get your lab to eat the yappy dog. Their dog is dead and they will never come stay with you again. Problem solved.

No its not. Its a little ankle biting dog that weighs what 15lbs max? Big damn deal. I dont know the OP but I would be willing to bet there has been nastier humans on that couch than some little pampered dog.

Here's what I took away from your story:

1. Her parents are OK with their only daughter living in sin.
2. Something about dogs.

Also, OP is 100% in the right here. And I'm glad that his fiancee agrees with him.

But that a-hole won't even let him stay anywhere in the house. Not even locked up in the bathroom or storage room. He's an a-hole. You're accomodating, IMO.

Wait, someone is an a-hole because he doesn't want animals in his house? I guess I'm an a-hole and didn't know it. If you bring your dog and expect it to be allowed inside of someone else's house (who doesn't own a dog), you're the a-hole IMO.
