I guess I'm an a-hole and didn't know it. If you bring your dog and expect it to be allowed inside of someone else's house (who doesn't own a dog), you're the a-hole IMO.

Why does it seem like there is always something wrong with parents in law.

It's odd. My gf's parents are a lot like my parents and are pretty laid back. So if it works out, they seem like they'd be cool in laws

I'm typing this while sitting on my trashy couch with my 2 trashy dogs, but you're in the right 100%. Your house, your rules. frick inlaws in general.

My dog is my child, but I don't bring him to people's houses that aren't dog lovers and ok with furniture dogs.
If I told my dog to get off the couch, he'd do it, but he'd moan and groan and look at me like I was an a-hole.

Nope. Your dog is your dog.

her parents are the assholes b/c this stupid yappy dog
relax and treat her parents with the same respect that you would treat your parents.

Besides animals on furniture is trashy
Depends on the size of the animal. A small toy dog...no problem. A lab on the sofa = trashy.

They didn't even call their only daughter. I'm thinking this is 100% b/c of the dog situation.
100% b/c of dog or 100% b/c of YOU?
If you care about your fiancée, you should give a little. It appears to me that you're being too anal about their dog and the parents don't enjoy your company.

Dogs are welcome on our furniture as long as they're not purposefully destructive or covered in mud or something.
That said, people who are nice enough to let us bring our dog over will be assumed to not want him close to furniture or anything he could mess up, until they indicate otherwise.
If the dog had hopped a couple times and you made a big deal out of it, or you were just an ahole off the bat, maybe they'd be closer to justified. But just getting angry because a little shite dog can't get on the furniture is bizarre.

OP is the a-hole. Sorry, was hoping it was the other guy but you're being crazy for nothing.
Put a blanket on the couch and enjoy your family. What happened to Southern hospitality?

Maybe the in-laws can leave their dog at home and enjoy their family?

Well they're coming back to town next weekend and apparently are staying with other members of their family
Maybe they just want to spend a little more time with other members of their family since they just stayed at your place a couple months ago.
Or they felt like they would be imposing to stay at your place again so soon.
