Did you watch it happen live? (i did)

Yes. Was also alive the first time it happened in 1980, and saw that on a tape my friend had that his Marine older brother brought home from Japan. That was in about 1982.

Is it the biggest moment ever in wrestling?

No, but pretty monumental. Hogan's heel turn might be the biggest ever.

And do you think HH lifted him as dead weight, or did Andre kinda jump into it to help out?

Andre helped.

How about the size difference between Sylvester Stallone and Hogan, compared to Hogan and ATH?

I remember Hogan trying to slam Yokozuna before going to WCW and not being able to turn him. Lex Luger was the first to slam him I think.

what's more astonishing is that andre the giant drank 19 cases (24) of beer in one sitting.

It was 136 beers in a sitting. Way to exaggerate

Doesn't he hold the world record for most beer drunk in one sitting?

Andre was an alcoholic but due to his size he struggled to actually get drunk. He said in an interview he needed something like two quarts of straight vodka just to feel a buzz.

I heard a podcast Hogan did. Hogan said there's no way he's slamming Andre without his help. And he didn't know Andre was going along with it until like 5am the night before when a drunk Andre called him over to his hotel room.

I've heard if Andre didn't want to lose that day, he didn't lose regardless of booking. If he really pinned someone no one could throw him off.

This was an awesome Saturday night when I was a kid! Saturday Nights Main Event. My brothers and I used to love that shite. One of very few reasons that we were ever able to stay up late. Good memories

Hogan has admitted if Andre didn't want to be slammed, there was no way he'd be able to do it. Before the match, Hogan was genuinely concerned that Andre wasn't going to let him.

I didn't watch it live since it was PPV but it was one of the lead stories on the local sportscast that night. That's how big of a deal it was at that time.

Things I see now -- Osteo issues had really taken away much of Andre's size and height at this point in his life. Hogan really wasn't that much shorter than Andre by the time WM 3 rolled around. Also, Andre's lack of mobility and Hogan's lack of wrestling skill made for a very technically boring match. Lot's of grabs and stalls and headbutts.

I'd always heard that Hogan was unsure if Andre was going to "do the honors" and job the match -- and that Andre wanted it that way to keep Hogan on his toes. Also heard that Hogan was so amped up when it came time to do the slam, that even with Andre's help, he lifted incorrectly and tore his lats.

Still a cool memory of a crazy time when the WWF captured the imagination of people who didn't care about wrestling.

Also, Steamboat/Savage just took a lot of steam out of the main event.

Correct. And the stories about his drinking and eating are very true. A lot of the wrestlers in the 80s were drunks , drug addicts , etc. I had the chance to meet a bunch of them and got to sit and eat with them many times. They were all nuts! My mother was the Director of food and beverage at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls , NY. So anytime they came (which was often) she would bring us to work with her and we got to hang out with a bunch of them before and after events. They were all nuts but always really cool to us and other kids that were around. The most friendly was always Rick Rude but I think he was interested in mom. Ill have to dig up all the old pictures we have of them. Fans here would get kick out of a all of the pictures my mother has.
