I remember reading, and hearing Hogan talk about it, that even in the ring he was unsure if Andre would actually let him do it.

How bad did that hurt Andre? A 500 lb man getting slammed like that looks like a really bad idea to me.

It probably hurt him alot given the condition he was in. Not only was Hogan unsure if Andre would take the bodyslam, but he was not 100% sure that Andre would agree to lose the match.

yeah, hogan may have body slammed him three or four times at least in the early 80's. but this was wrestlemania 3 in front of the largest crowd at that time.
but the circumstances were different and this was more of a passing of the torch moment, i remember hogan being saying he was unsure. im glad andre let him do that, especially since andre's weight had gone up, which makes the move even more impressive.
