40 hours is not unusual for me. I usually do this once every few months or so if work is really busy. I just work through one day at the office straight through to the end of the next day.
As long as I am zoned in on what I am working on, usually not much coffee is involved. There is usually one point in the middle of the night where my psyche tries to rationalize and go to sleep, like a self-preservation mechanism. But once I push through that mentally, it's cruise control through to the next night.
I would try three days straight sometime, but my biggest concern is that I might fall asleep driving and cause an accident.

When you talk about literally WITHOUT SLEEP, as in not even a quick 10 minute doze off, I seriously dont' believe anyoen who says anythign longer than about 36 hours. I'm sure some badasses in here will say that they stayed up for 7 straight days partying on spring break, but that's bull shite.
I was in Amsterdam for 4 days without stopping, but I definitely had a few of those 10 minute "naps." We partied like rock stars though. It was OOC

Probably around 50 hours. 19 years old, booze, a little coke and an awesome weekend.

I worked 124 hours in a 7 day period once. Two 12 hour shifts off and sleeping at any opportunity available in between. My first year working offshore. Nothing but nasty coffee and adrenaline to keep me going. We would skip meals to stave off digestive sleepiness. Amazing what companies were allowed to get away with not so very long ago. My mom has the paystub which lists my hours in storage someplace.

Woke up in Oxford around 7 a.m. on a Friday to study and take a test, then drove to Dallas to visit friends at SMU for their Jungle Party and didn't go to sleep until after 6 a.m. on Sunday, then woke up at 11 a.m. to drive back to Oxford. That was probably the worst drive of my life

Woke up Thursday morning and didn't go to sleep until Sunday night around 7. So I guess about 84 hours.
That was back in 1996. Those were the good ole days.

At around 48 hours my brain starts to short out. 45-60 minutes of hard sleep at that moment and I'm good to go for another 12 hours or so.
I always knew I was screwed when I'd down a cup of coffee and it was like taking a sedative.
