What's the appropriate gesture from husband to wife if laid off?

My buddy's wife is getting laid off and her last day is next Friday. She's known for a couple months but they're pretty devastated about it. She's pregnant (apparently got knocked up a few weeks before the pink slip came) and it's not a great situation.

What would one do on the day of? Flowers? Anything? It's not a great idea to go out and blow money, and she's not the type to shop her way to happiness anyway. I don't know what to tell him. Any advice?

I assume he's planning to PIIHB and other places so this would be in addition to that.

Give her a mop and broom and tell her to get to work inside the house.

Take her credit cards away.

No, not really

I would put together a financial plan to illustrate to her that everything is going to be ok, wives want security.

Yeah, but she didn't even tell them. They've had a couple miscarriages so they don't talk about it muchd she's still in the first trimester.

Take her to a nice quiet dinner and reaffirm her and tell her you believe in her and this too shall pass and you're in it together and then a buncha other mushy stuff so she's knows you're in her corner.
