Do you give gifts or dinners for getting laid off?

I would just tell her I support her and go about our normal life trying to hold stuff together. shite happens, it's not her fault, we'll work on getting through and getting her back to work (if possible) while maintaining excitement about potentially starting a family.

Plenty of others have survived worse with ease.

Yeah, but she didn't even tell them. They've had a couple miscarriages so they don't talk about it muchd she's still in the first trimester.
well she would have had to take time off anyways.

Not saying its good timing to get laid off, but it kinda is. She will have time to look for other options while a baby grows inside of her.

PIIH-damnit!

Take her out to a nice dinner?

There's really nothing to do that will make her feel better about it.

Buy your buddy tickets for him and you to see Mama Mia and you can have a Broadway bro-down, since you are clearly in love with him.

would put together a financial plan to illustrate to her that everything is going to be ok, wives want security.

This is a good idea. He should also get a second job until she finds a new one, that way she can spend all of her time looking and focusing on the baby without being TOO stressed.

What would one do on the day of? Flowers? Anything? It's not a great idea to go out and blow money, and she's not the type to shop her way to happiness anyway. I don't know what to tell him. Any advice?

1. Tell him to listen and talk it out with her. Women just like to talk they don't want your solutions at first. They just want to talk/cry it out for awhile.
2. After she is through crying discuss finances and reassure her that they will be fine for awhile.
3. Links to job applications
4. Tell him to make sex tape then sell it on the interweb

Curious as well. Seems like she didn't prepare for this.
