If he is an old single guy, have your wife talk about an old single aunt you Need to hook him up with. You bad mouth her and talk about her annoying faults. Do this every time he comes over. "Oh I told aunt Cindy about you and how you always visit us. She wants to come stay for a week to meet you."

Next time he comes over have a pre-planned fight with your wife over some stupid shite. Get her to start throwing shite around and yelling and screaming at you. He will feel so uncomfortable he will go home.

Thats way more work then just telling him you want to spend time alone with your wife.
The world really sucks for having people like this dude. It really pisses me off in all aspects of life when people don't learn simple shite like this.
I can think of 1000 situations where people pull impolite shite like this and it just baffles me. Travelling, Airplanes, Subways etc etc. Its the worst.

I'm reminded about the family that had neighbors

If he denies being gay, just laugh it off and keep pushing that you totally accept gay people and you think it's great that he's gay. In fact, start referring to him as Gay-___. When he comes over say, "Hi Gay Eric." (only if his name is Eric otherwise he'll think you're dumb.)

Have your wife tell the neighbor you guys have been talking, and would like to know if he's up for a threesome.

I've had neighbors that wanted to abuse my personal time. I just told them that if they ever needed my help for anything to call me, but that I cherished my alone time and did not wish to socialize. They understood and have left me alone.
