My vote was instantly North Dakota, but most of the Midwest just seems like a terrible place to live.

Alaska.

Snow, ice, and 23 hours of sunlight.

Anchorage has actually pretty moderate winters, they have less severe winters than Minnesota, ND, SD, Montana, Michigan, Illinois, all those states

Either of the Dakota states or Nebraska.

I could live in South Dakota, especially Rapid City. It looks pretty nice there with the Black Hills.

i posted and then it got locked, but the "it looks like a strip mall" only works if you plan on living in a small handful of cities

and comparing lafayette to NYC or San Francisco is not fair

Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey and West Virginia all seem incredibly miserable.

Basically anywhere on the Gulf Coast and not because I dislike any of the areas really. Just absolutely hate hot, humid weather.

California

West coast in general is bad. But I can't take the average California resident.

I resemble that remark...I live in a small strong hole of Republicans here in Redlands. California is great, I just wish the duck hunting was better.

I'll say this as so wine who moved to California 3 years ago and was VERY skeptical about the move. Really thought I would hate it here, had a similarly negative view of CA and the west coast.

But, this place is fricking awesome. Yes, the state has it's problems and is the poster child for a ton of failed liberal policies.

But there is so much to do. So much natural beauty. Hell if I want to this weekend, I can choose between hiking in the moutains, hiking in the desert, going to the beach or snow skiing. And I can do all of that in less than 2 hours from my front door.

So trust me, for all of its problems CA is NOT a bad place to live.

This-I've been here since 1985. My wife and I raised 2 boys here and they are both doing great attending US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. We have loved it, the people are good, schools here are good, good churches, the hiking, beach, skiing, etc. fantastic.

I agree with this to an extent. I could probably live in any state that has a city with a population of 250k+.
