He does have a point about paying a premium, but then again I don't know what the average anchorage salary is. It wasn't cheap whenever I visited though

Pay is pretty high. Not a lot of rich folks, but a hell of a lot of middle/upper middle class folks.

Alaska has the 3rd highest cost of living out of all states. (4th highest if you include Washington D.C.)

That really depends on where you'd be living in Alaska.
It's kind of a big state to make blanket assumptions about.
Yeah, the native villages are terribly expensive but they are also pretty shitty. Most of them anyway.
Housing in Juneau is ridiculous but it's a fantastic place to live.

That stat can also be interrupted as Alaskans have the third most to spend on living.

Residents have a lot of disposable income. It's a pretty high standard of living, except in the village.

Interesting chart that shows the real value of the disposable income when cost of living is factored in:

Looks like some TD users have a new reason to hate Seattle.
Absolutely not. Love San Francisco and Seattle. Just hate the state of California.

Hawaii is expensive and a lot of service industry jobs. It's a tough place to make it if you don't have a lot of money.

I make way more here I Los Angeles than I did in north Texas. My wife is a nurse at a major hospital here. The cost of living is higher but we h ave a LOT more disposable income than before.
I was skeptical of the people and politics because I am originally from a small town in the Ozarks. But damn the weather and things to do way outweigh the whackos.

Didn't Fred G Sanford have a time share in El Segunda?

Now to answer your question: New Mexico is the last state id live in. Desolate hellhole.
Evidently you've never seen Northern New Mexico.
