Yep. I know a couple who gave away their golden retriever because they said it was destroying their house. Well then discipline the mother fricker

Until you give it away and they're licking up the spit off the ground off the next dummy that owns them.

But yea too many people get dogs without knowing what goes into owning them. People suck

This is me. People need to consider their situation before getting a dog originally.

Too many variables to make a decision without more context. But in general, I think people should honor their commitments regardless of to whom or what they are.

I get irritated when I see my neighbors walking the large dogs meant to be outside, not cramped up inside. The times have changed and we simply can't let our dogs roam the neighborhoods anymore. So don't get a large dog if you live in an apartment or a house without a yard and/or fence. That is cruelty and should be treated as animal abuse.

To be honest with you, I was one of these people, but I learned quickly, and 2 years later and looking back on it, I would have done it again. Dogs are awesome

I agree in principle but sometimes there are unforeseen situations. Can't imagine not getting woke up each morning by our boxer at my bed and having coffee with before leaving.

When I was four or five, my parents had to give our two dogs away when we moved to town. My dog's name was Buckshot. He went to live with my dad's coworker/fishing buddy, "Big Red." We went to visit every so often. Buckshot was OK and seemed happy there.

Years ago I had to give my dogs away to family because I knew they could give them a better home environment than I could. I had recently split up with the guy I was living with and was working 50-60 hours a week at the hospital. My dogs were used to having a big backyard and someone there every evening to let them out.

When we split I moved into a small apartment and they didn't adjust well to the changes. It absolutely broke my heart to let them go, but a cousin offered to give them a home. His wife was home all the time and their kids loved my dogs. I knew it was a much better environment for them.

When I got Butters years later I swore to myself that I would never give him away, I never wanted to feel that feeling again(giving your dog away).

It's not like I just put them out on the street. I would go visit them at my cousin's house and I could just see how much they thrived in their new home. I knew I had made the right decision. It wasn't a decision I took lightly, I loved those pugs. But living alone...working so much. They started fighting with each other all the time, wouldn't eat at times. They were miserable and it was my fault. I had to do what I could to make it right. Finding them a better home environment was the right thing for them.

Never really thought about it. I don't fault someone for it though, situations change.

I'm not a big animal person though

Kids come first. Dogs adapt. If you get rid of a dog because you're having a child that's your business. If you feel like you can't take care of a dog and you give it away that's your business.

Do y'all get this emotional whenever someone decides they can't keep a horse anymore? Animals will be fine. Just be responsible in finding them a new home and the rest will take care of itself.
