fricking losers. Unless they physically cannot take care of their dog anymore or the dog has a defective personality that makes it dangerous but other than that total scum.

My fiancé and I got our first dog about a year ago. I wouldn't give her up under any circumstance. I can't believe people do this. My dog is part of my family. Dogs are the most loyal beings on the planet, pleasing you is their sole purpose, and you can't even make some sacrifices to keep them? I can't fathom bonding for months-years with your dog and then saying "well we're moving and I don't want to have to try harder to find a place to accommodate him/her, so later." What's a legitimate good reason, in your opinion, to get rid of your dog?
A dog is not a child, you don't really understand that til you have a child.
There are plenty of valid reasons to rehome a dog. If you are no longer able to provide for the dog or If you have a child and the dog and child do not mix well. There are two good examples.
My parents had to rehome their dog of more than 10 years when my dad got transferred to another country. They were sure the dog wouldn't survive the flight because of its advanced age and they would be traveling a lot by air so it didn't make sense to put the dog through that. A family friend took the dog in because I was in college at the time and couldn't keep a pet. The dog lived a happy life.
Rescues do not look down on owners that try to rehome for good reasons that are in the best interest of the dog.

A lady on my team today asked me seriously if I would take her Shepherd puppy. She can't control her.
IMO, she's too nice. She doesn't have the Alpha in her to train the dog properly.

There was a video of a family going to a shelter a couple days after dropping their dog off there. The dog was excited to see them and they were looking to adopt a different one because that one was sad and whining a lot after its mom or dad died.
The shelter realized it and told them to leave.
Honestly, to the op, it depends on the situation. I am on the board for a small local no kill shelter and we help people place dogs all the time. Most people don't think a thing when they take a dog in about long term until they have it. There is a girl that is a huge liberal Bernie supporter that fostered a dog and adopted him and had him a year then du,led him off because he wouldn't listen to her. I worked with him about two hours and had him retrieving balls and sitting on command. He didn't want to give the ball up easily when he returned it but he would eventually. His big problem was he was an energetic black lab that needed attention and she was too shitty to give it to him. I can't hardly look at that stupid bitch now any time I see her.
ETA. We also had a guy that had a small dog that was picked up, we knew who the owner was and he refused to pick up his dog. After a few weeks when his kids came home to find out there was no dog there, he started blowing up our phone trying to get his dog back and we refused to give it to him. After 7 days it is our dog to adopt as we see fit.

I was in a position where I needed my mom to take in my lab for some time. After 4-5 months it became apparent it was going to be difficult for me to take him from her. She is semi retired and absolutely adores him. 4 years later, it has worked out great. I still see him, and my mom treats him like royalty. It would break my moms heart if I tried to take him back. It was not my intention for it to be long term, but it's worked for the best.

Maybe you are partially right about this. Maybe I need to make an effort to change.
So, effective immediately, anything associated with Rouge is nothing but crap. There, I feel an improvement already.

I had to give up my pooch once. When I started in the oilfield and knew I would be away too much to properly be there for him.
found him a good home still go see him when I am near the farm. he gets excited when I pop in. want him back but they have kids that got attached to him
