You gave your pugs away? Why?

This was years ago(like 2003). Had split up with my fiancé at the time and moved into a tiny apartment. You can reread the earlier post in this thread for the whole story.

I would never let go of Butters. My husband would get frustrated with him when he would poop/pee on our floor a couple years ago and hint/joke at finding him another home if he continued to do it and I told him it absolutely was not an option.

In all seriousness

I do not trust people that claim to like animals more than people....I mean those that really mean it

People who love their dogs like one of their kids must really hate their kids

I'm not a big animal person though

same here. I think most people get a dog for all the wrong reasons and make baseless decisions on the type of dog they get.

I hate people that get something like a Golden Retreiver and live in a 700SF apt and work 8-10hrs a day are just as cruel. Maybe walk it 5 minutes in the morning and maybe 15 in the afternoon. Those people are just as bad.

Best dog ever was an Australian Cattle Dog that showed up at my parent's ranch. No tag or collar. Didn't bother anybody seeking attention but didn't mind the kids playing with her. Wouldn't bring you a ball but if you wanted to play fetch, it could play all day. A car arrived it barked to let somebody know and It chased away varmints. It would be running along beside you on a four wheeler and walk through the woods with you as a companion. Stayed outside and preferred it. Kind of ugly but best damn dog ever.

If you met Butters...you would easily come to the conclusion that he is vastly better than someone like Kim Kardashian

But I know what you mean. There is a happy medium.

I saw an episode of The Dog Whisperer and this one lady spent hours each day preparing fresh food from fresh ingredients for the dogs and made TV dinners for her family. Wtf is wrong with people?

What about the people who, for one reason or another, go through a change (a move, a new child, etc) and decide to give their dog to a shelter or a friend?
I mean, I think this can only be done on a case by case basis. I also thing where you take your dog is a biggie. Preferably to someone you know, but if not, do some research on the best places/shelters to leave your dog where you know he'll be cared for until he finds a new home.

But as a long time dog owner, I think there's certainly circumstances where I don't have an issue with it. Many crazy, unexpected things happen in people's lives. And I also think some people go a tad overboard with the "dogs are family" line(I do think they're family, but again, overboard.)
quote:

My fiancé and I got our first dog about a year ago. I wouldn't give her up under any circumstance. I can't believe people do this. My dog is part of my family. Dogs are the most loyal beings on the planet, pleasing you is their sole purpose, and you can't even make some sacrifices to keep them? I can't fathom bonding for months-years with your dog and then saying "well we're moving and I don't want to have to try harder to find a place to accommodate him/her, so later."

What if you guys have a kid and he's severely allergic to dogs? What if things were great when you got the dog but you've fallen on tough times financially and just can't afford a place that allows dogs. What if, maybe not you, but again some life circumstance popped up and a person now has to work 2 jobs to care for their kids and simply doesn't have time to be a good dog owner?

We're getting a dog this summer so my wife and kids would stop bugging the ever living shite out of me. That's a good enough reason for me

So you don't own a dog, but you're in here judging others who do?
