meh, I'd rather a wife that's willing to run my household and take care of my kids while I'm working
Congrats on marrying a uterus.

they don't eat out, drive used vehicles, $150k home, vacation maybe every 3 years, etc

I hate to dismiss it but $100k is nothing.
As a single guy, you can save for retirement and still live comfortably on a little over 100K in the Houston suburbs. If I got married and she didn't work, my standard of living would take a pretty big hit though.

You can vacation every year...you just aren't going to Europe.

Not even that much.

That's about right.
I can't even contemplate why I'm paying $350 a month insurance for 2 cars.
By the time I pay car insurance, phones and cable - that's almost $1000. That's 20% of my net income.
(ETA: I'm still slugging at my student loans - it is no single thing - it is a death of a thousand cuts.)

Well yea, in that case $50k is a shite load of money. That'd be like having a $50k salary while in college.

Yeah...50k without a car or house payment is probably close to making 100k.
Posted on 1/22/14 at 9:26 am to bamaphan13
I make over 100K, my new goal is 250K
Im 25 FWIW

There was an article awhile back on Yahoo with the same subject. They put it at $250k equivalent

I think only 20% of household incomes in the U.S. are 100k or above. So 100k is still a big deal for an individual to make. Salaries have just not kept up with inflation.
This, especially the last sentence, is something that many people fail to realize.

That's great if grandparents are willing to do that
