Honestly, all you can do is to have a loving, stable family and raise your children to be intelligent, compassionate, productive members of society.

Community organizer. The only way this gets fixed is if we can get kids to start changing their goals. The cycle of poverty that many impoverished get into glorifies the dope man. That needs to change, so that's where I'd start.

I'm far too white for black kids to listen to me though

On the surface it does reduce arrests, thereby lowering the overall image of being a dangerous neighborhood. However, it does nothing to really address the lack of education and by extension lack of employment keeping these people in their situation.

Lowering the "image of being a dangerous neighborhood" doesn't make it actually any less dangerous.

I agree with the warnings first approach, but it should be followed up with mandatory seminars about civil responsibility and possible community service penalties.

Warnings first doesn't mean lower participation in crime. Seminars and community service won't prevent crime from happening as long as crime is profitable and these people don't have other opportunities to profit. Seminars on civil responsibility and community service time won't increase profitable opportunities for these people.

What should be focused on is how to reduce dependence on government assistance and dependence on committing crimes in order to gain money. Black youth need to learn how to get ahead in life through getting an education and having real work ethic. Then they will have the skills to have a real life, not just become hood rich.

Call out all the ignorant racial bullshite that the vocal blacks come up with.

I know there are tons of smart black people but it seems like they're a silent minority. The smart ones just sit back and don't say anything cause they are afraid of being called an Uncle Tom.

Right vs. wrong is a way of life.
Be an inspiration to them.
Take them fishing.
Training.
Education.
Play baseball with them.
A part of everything they do.
Call them when they are away... often.
Take them with you.
Lots of hugs.
Pay attention to them when they speak.
Love them more than you love yourself.
Make them work with you.
Do the same chores.
Earn money.
Behave yourself.
Try harder.
A lot shorter answer for you would have been "act white".

I get what your saying and I agree.

However, the appeal made by the media is so strong that its a difficult nut to crack. There is a perception that a thug is "strong" or more manly.

Interestingly, whites have a similar dynamic with the 'bad boy' archetype

However, it has become a much larger problem in the black community.

There is a common belief among a few local black community "leaders" that the answer is to hire police officers who sympathize and accept the "ways of the hood" and will reduce the number of arrests made for crimes in those areas, thereby "reducing" the crime.

So the best idea they came up with is one from an episode of The Wire?

Quit being a liberal and embrace your "Conservative, Christian values. Liberalism is a victim mentality ideology. Take responsibility for your actions and spread this mentality to any young black, or white kid that will listen. And good luck and God Bless. Your heart is in the right place.

So appease your sensibilities?

Whatever you do, don't do that.

Be as "black" as you wanna be Volod. Make people accept you for who you are

To be fair, some of us have alterior motives.

Someone else mentioned this in Affirmative Action thread. The truth is that a lot of upper middle class Blacks benefit from Blacks acting stupid and making dumb choices.

They get all the benefits of AA while enjoying a better social class than a lot of other people regardless of race. I do not think most Blacks are like this, but a good amount of them are.

First, these problems were created over generations and will probably take generations to solve because human values don't change overnight. But nothing is going to change unless people start trying to change it, so good for you trying to make a difference

Political Rights Activist

Lord no, they are part of the problem. There is a ton of money and power in these "social injustice movements". They have a vested interest in sewing seeds of division. Some of them may even have good intentions but the end goal is the same, picking different sets of winners and losers based largely on race rather than merit or even need. That doesn't solve anything, it just makes things worse.

quote:

Charity Donation

This is probably the right answer, but donate time rather than or in addition to money. You can't save the entire black community, but you might be able to save a few stray kids here and there. Look into something like Big Brother or just volunteer time at one of the shelters or community centers.

1. tutor black youth so that they know what kind of opportunities they could get if they try even just a little in high school. Show them all of the opportunities for scholarships and grants or even just how much money they could make working a trade.

2. Employ them. If you have a business, take a risk on employing poor African Americans who want to work, if you can find them.

3. Vote against those who enable the leach lifestyle.

4. Snitch. If someone in your community is committing crimes, start calling in tips to crimestoppers.
